No sun and super humid
Although we're still in the middle of a heatwave here in Spain, some days the sun is not showing and exactly this weekend when we were aiming to check out the nearest beach, there was no sun. What was even worse is that the humidity reached 89% while earlier that week it was just 42%. Now I've learned that with these high humidities, nothing is pleasant, and I'm personally best locked up inside with an air conditioner on. Of course, this is not always possible but thankfully for me, we had enough groceries so we could afford a lazy Saturday. It was a shame though because in the morning we decided to go for a swim later (we didn't tell our daughter thankfully) and then the sun didn't show all day.
When we opened the door to the hallway at some point, it was like a big slap in the face. I decided to check the forecast and found out about the high humidity, quickly changing our plans.
Binging versus decluttering
My boyfriend works many hours, and even with barely anyone calling due to the holidays, he still has to be present most of the day so he was more than happy to spend a day on the couch watching some documentaries. I'm usually working when we stay in during the weekends, trying to make some progress on things I've been working on, or in this case, I felt the itch to declutter one or a few of our closets.
I've been doing this for a week now more or less as it was needed when we changed offices. I'm now working in our walk-in office (formerly known as the walk-in closet) and my boyfriend sits in the bedroom to have some decent daylight. I can't even imagine how it must have been sitting here more than full-time, I can't stand sitting here for more than 2 hours straight because of the lack of light. We tried adding LED lights but it's not it. Until we move, I will suck it up and deal with it though. I can decide to stop being here during the day, while he can't so it's fair that we swapped.
Little hoarder
Of course, it was known to us that our daughter likes to save everything for possible craft options. The thing is, if it's up to her we keep every empty toilet roll. Not if it's up to us though! She loves drawing and crafting and that's great because she's good at it but she also loves to keep every draft or horrible sketch (not everything is a masterpiece!) somewhere without honestly looking at it and saying well this could be dumped in the bin and this is good enough to keep.
She doesn't use the same closet to save them, nope, they are literally everywhere and I made it a task months ago to go through it all and get it sorted. I just didn't have the space in my head to deal with it because it drives me nuts! The chaos makes me itchy and I can't deal with it properly if I'm not fully relaxed.
Chaos
As we were staying in I decided to open another horrible closet and get it done. I told her to get everything out and while doing so also throw away some stuff. She doesn't agree with throwing out as much as I did, lol, so I had to help her afterward. It's not fully to my liking yet as I'm going through a few other boxes and closets to figure out what goes where I will show the end result when I have it all in order.
Next school year's books and supplies, compared to last year (see the ones on the right side) it's quite a big pile of books this year!
New system in place
Now that I have the office I made sure all printing paper, drawing notebooks, and stuff that can be used to draw or make crafts with is in the office. Now she has to ask me for every paper so I know what goes out and that something has to be either thrown out if it's failed or just a draft, or saved in a plastic folder to finish up later. I don't want any loose papers laying around in any closet anymore as she doesn't even remember what she put where. It just stays there until I sort it.
Granted, she made quite a few excellent stuff I will keep and I told her once I have everything sorted, we will put them in the order of when she made it to put it into a scrapbook so these are kept forever.
Gamers area
Meanwhile, when I was clearing the mess, my boyfriend vanished to the bedroom where I found him gaming later when I checked on him. He asked the little one if she wanted to join and so they were busy gaming for hours. I didn't mind as this meant I could focus on my mission to declutter another closet of the house!
I'm definitely not done yet as I can only take one or two cabinets/drawers at once because I get way too stressed seeing what she just throws in there and then loses (read: doesn't really look for it properly)
Coffee anthem
Now there was another cool thing I did this weekend and that's finishing the Coffee Anthem contest entry by the Cinnamon Cup Coffee Community, which I called the Coffee Connoisseur and had lots of fun writing it and you can find the final result here. I won second place so that's even cooler because my effort didn't go unnoticed.
Good distraction from the pain
All these events were great distractions from the very uncomfortable pain in my leg coming from my hip (which turned out to come from my back the next day, as you can read here.
I may have overdone it a bit because I clearly didn't feel the spot where the pain really come from as the other areas were much more painful to distract me from the real issue. Now that I know and have medication, when the sedation of medication wears off, weirdly enough I can only feel the pain in my back area instead of the pain moving through the leg. Weird, but true.
Next weekend
Fast forward a few days and the new weekend is around the corner, I think we will meet up with a friend who will go to the UK next week and it's about time we go for a tapa together. For the rest, I just hope to be used to my medication by the time the weekend arrives because it's affecting my days quite heavily at the moment.
Have a good day ahead!
