It is my first time participating in the weekend community engagements.
I’m grateful for this weekend’s prompt, I can finally relate to one of the topics and I’ve also been looking for a good opportunity to share my narrative on this.
The topic reads;
“A personal moment of which I'm most proud”.
As of two years ago (In the year 2020), I decided to start a small business.
I envisioned starting a beauty brand but I had to single out some particular products to prioritize so I made research, prayed about it then slept on it.
Days later I concluded on producing lipglosses and lip care products.
It’s a chapter in my life I might have been my most optimistic. I had enough time in my hands and I wanted to be busy.
It was tough generating enough capital to import raw materials for the production of the gloss but with the help of my mother and sister, I got in touch with a supplier and eventually acquired everything I needed.
Before anything else, I came up with an agenda;
- Order raw materials
- Create a social media business platform
- Start production process
- Take pictures of finished products
- Post
- Sale
I checked the first three and it came down to the fourth.
Taking pictures.
Never did I think that would be the hardest thing. I am not a professional photographer, I was barely managing an iPhone 8 at that time and I had no experience whatsoever.
It was just me, my products and my ring light staring at each other waiting for the slightest inspiration.
I lost count of how many failed attempts I made to take a gratifying picture of my products.
Until my sister came to my rescue. She advised me to get inspo from popular brands like Fenty beauty, Kylie cosmetics, Rare beauty, Milani, Huda beauty etc.
I needed a muse and the closest person to use was myself. It was a small business and funds weren’t enough to pay a model so I had to improvise. I took the pictures and they turned out pretty great.
With pictures checked from the list, posting was a breeze for me and God’s willing, i sold out all my products.
So long story short, I independently started a business, produced products, create amazing contents, managed the social media page and sell out my products all by MYSELF.
That right there was a personal moment I was most proud of.
I was am still proud of not letting any negativity discourage me and for my first attempt in entrepreneurship, I checked out every list in my agenda.
I regrettably gave up on it as a result of no capital to restock but writing this article just reminded me of how hopeful I used to be and somehow things always worked out.
I think with Hive, I will consider going back in business real soon.
