Cheers!
This weekend we got together with @therneau, @jusipassetti and another couple I will introduce in a moment!
So what was meant to be just a family braai with the addition of @aimeludick's boyfriend Jake... yes... Aime got a boyfriend, turned into a bit of an invitation gauntlet of people confirming and cancelling invitations. Such is the busy social life.
@clairemobey and I ended up hosting 4 other adults and 8 kids (including our 3). So a total of 14 people. So to make sure I tag the sheer amount of Hive accounts involved here:
@zakludick (Myself)
@clairemobey (My wife)
@therneau
@jusipassetti
@aimeludick (My daughter)
@merenludick (My son)
@rexydayz (Therneau and Justine's son)
@matthew-williams (My son)
@tylorman
So 9 participants all had Hive accounts! But I am not stopping there. I have some plans on bringing more people to Hive and use the platform in a real way to share their talent, experiences and engagement with people in their own city - Social Media replacement!
Well, enough of that. Let's get into the subject of the braai.
Wors Braai
We thought we were going to make things simple for ourselves and just braai some boerewors and get rolls. With so many people coming I set out to make a massive tomato and onion relish and @clairemobey made her famous potato salad!
Wood matters
I like lighting up a decent amount of wood. This wood is not rooikranz, I should think of mixing my wood. But it got the job done! This was actually a mix of black wattle and blue gum. This wood is cheap and are actually and invasive species in the Cape. Meaning they are not indigenous and take over areas by outgrowing local plants.
These trees are designated for removal by the government because they are also very water greedy. In nature conservation areas, the park rangers and such remove them and do not allow them to grow in the parks. But on farm properties and other less regulated spaces, there are still thousands of these trees.
Anyway, so we braai with them.
Showreel of good company!
Like I said, @aimeludick has a boyfriend, Jake and so we invited his parents Richard and Debbie to join us.
@therneau, Richard and myself congregated around the fire while the ladies took to the bench.
Meanwhile the teenagers and kids congregated on a picnic blanket in the garden. We stuck one of our LED emergency lights in the branches of the tree and they surrounded a bowl of chips and busied themselves on their devices when they were not sprinting up and down and throwing balls.
Here they were a little more calm.
Sorry for the flash guys!
What a lot of fun! This was only HALF of the awesome stuff that happened this weekend but I feel that I need to include those happeningings in a separate post!
The next evening @clairemobey and @jasperdick had a live performance at the Salt and Sage, a wonderful beachfront restaurant, along with a bunch of other artists. I am sure that @jasperdick and @clairemobey will make their own posts about it. A lot of the photography came from me though! Hahaha.
See you then!
