There is nothing like a summer-ending long weekend music festival for a #WeekendExperiences (founded by @galenkp) post!
Specifically, my #SublimeSunday (inspired by @c0ff33a) and #BeautifulSunday (initiated by @ace108) started at 1pm when I woke up, still drunk!
First things first! The prompt!
I suck at taking the prompts because I prefer not to blog things like "Finish the line: I feel entitled because..." or "If you could say a few nice things about your greatest enemy." Then, I read down to the last prompt at https://hive.blog/hive-168869/@galenkp/weekend-engagement-topics-week-221 and found one that is up my alley.
"If you could choose an ideal age to be and remain that age forever what is it and why?" I think my life flashed before my eyes and paused at a couple cool ages. 24? Yah that was pretty cool and packed with stories but our brains don't actually finish developing til 30 so that's not it. I would say 33. Brain is developed, plenty of lessons learned to make you feel old but you really don't have any idea what old feels like. Probably starting to make good money after a few false starts and rung steps on the ladder. Still heading to all-night raves and developing some fun skills and hobbies.
Truth is I identify as 33 and would not trade any of my years to stall at an age.
MAGfest
Do you ever have those happy places and the chance to get to them every year? Ever have those epic long weekends where people come from all around to be a part of it and just cherish the chance to share a few days in paradise? Yah this is the place for me.
It is a cottage property but we throw up a tent like a couple other dozen folks. The fresh air and fish-filled river sure make for some Sublime weekends. If there were no other people here, it would still be perfect.
Speaking of fish, here is my buddy Dinser proving there are some small mouth bass ready to bite a hook
The Music!
Before everyone shows up, maybe 150 guests? This is the solar powered stage that was purpose-built to host wayward music players and fans from all corners. A whole platform for lawn chairs and enough power for 10 hours of music.
I have such a great time with all the people that I rarely think to bring out my camera to snap a shot. The best seats in the house are on the stage and I make sure to visit whenever there is a song that needs a guitar or backup vocalist. In this shot, we have the totem pole with a flask of whisky mixed with the ashes of the fellow who created this whole place over a half century ago.
I had to pull my phone out to capture one of the many stage dogs. This was in the middle of a loud AC/DC song I had to sing and this little lady was happy enough to be napping right on the foot of our lead guitar player. Stage Dogs!
Blows me away to see family, friends, their families and friends with so much musical talent and a passion for playing music for each other. A couple people know a song from beginning to end and then enough people can pick it up and create a special unique version.
Even the next day, the stage comes to life with music. This is a few of the kids getting up to sing songs they know. No stage fright or hesitation as everyone has the gift of music and you just have to let it loose.
Back to Paradise
While the music and people are my favourite things about this special weekend, I have to pause to look around and share some of this back woods Canadiana with you. ATVs, the hilltop cottage, the stage and plenty of green.
Trees gone almost wild snuggling up to a wide river with no neighbours in sight. End game stuff.
Then, the sun goes down and it somehow gets even better.

With a bit more luck, I can snap myself back into daily posting and the other Hive projects I am so fond of. Hope is not a strategy but I am still riding high on a weekend of nature, friends and music and that should keep me going.
