“If I made that amount of money, I will immediately invest in real estate.”
I was kneeling besides Gabriel who was reclining on the red sofa. His fingers were busy on his smartphone but he was paying full attention to what I was saying.
“You would be better off investing in a business instead.”
Gabriel's eyes were still focused on his Samsung smartphone. But he occasionally looked up from the phone to gaze at my face.
"Why?”
I asked, puzzled.
“Because it will be a more prudent investment and would protect your finances from inflation.”

“Well,” I ventured hesitantly. “I plan to invest heavily in infrastructure in the future. I don't care much for the profits, my intention is to make the world a better place.” I paused as the light from the TV flashed into my eyes making me blink. “I want people to have access to good and affordable accommodation. Then I would move on to invest in other areas like education, healthcare, food, etc, infact I would invest in virtually every aspect of the society with the intention of bettering the lives of others on a worldwide scale. In a way nobody has ever done”
Gabriel didn't reply straightway. His fingers were resting on the screen of his phone and he seemed to be turning thoughts over in his mind. Then he said,
“Well good luck to you. Hope you will have the financial strength to achieve such lofty goals.”
This is the type of discussion that usually happens when someone caught me in a meditative state. They would ask me what I was thinking about. Most of the time I was thinking about my goals, dreams and aspirations in life. I was daydreaming about how I would have a lot of money and how it would help me change people's lives.
Oftentimes I daydreamed as I laid out the plans in my mind. I would imagine myself being the foremost entrepreneur and financier of my time. I would picture myself changing the world for good. If anyone asked me what my thoughts were I would share the ideas with them.
During some of these discussions I discovered areas my plans and goals had a fault. Areas I should make adjustments. Sometimes I would spend time convincing people that doubted me.
“You know it's not easy to be involved with a lot of projects like you want to do,” my friend Emma enthused one evening as we shared a conversation. “Focusing on each project and making sure they succeed would be difficult. How do you plan to deal with that?”
I was reclining on a white plastic chair. I had a few seconds to think before replying:

“First I will employ a lot of smart and capable people to handle the technical aspects of each project. I would also employ a lot of high-profile professionals in my cooperate organizations. Trusted subordinates will monitor each project and what happens in every sector of the companies and then report back to me just as they themselves would have people reporting to them. That way I wouldn't have to give each project or company my full attention.”
And then we moved on to talk about other things.
From these types of discussions I've learnt to view my goals and dreams from the perspectives of others and have made insightful realisations.
One of my classmates back in highschool caught me one day daydreaming about my goals and aspirations in life and we talked briefly about it. Each discussion about my life goals with others opens my eyes to possibilities and challenges and places that require improvement.
Some disapprove of my goals outright saying they are too lofty. Some had gone as far as saying I am high on drugs for thinking such lofty thoughts.
“Only people on drugs think such thoughts.”
An acquaintance told me one time. But I wasn't perturbed. Some things we consider normal today were once seen as impossible until someone did them.

So by being caught daydreaming by friends or loved ones and having a discussion about it has helped me improve my life's goals and dreams, to know what others think of it and to see areas for adjustment and improvement. I will continue (day)dreaming till the day my dreams become reality...
