Fate And Good Fortune

Marco felt devastated by the news he saw in the morning paper that fateful morning. It was news of the shipwreck of the ocean going vessel The Traveller. He was totally devastated. His only brother had been on that ship enroute to Germany. Marco imagined the horror of his brother when news floated across that the ship was going down. That hopeless feeling of torment. The tears flowed down his cheeks and it was only by an extraordinary act of restraint he did not do some physical harm to himself.

Alessandro was his only brother. Their parents had passed some eight years ago. Sickness had claimed the both of them, and since then the two distraught brothers had labored to survive. They had taken all sorts of menial jobs just to keep alive. It was only a month ago that his younger brother had come to him with a wonderful idea that had come to his mind while they were having a hurried breakfast before departing to their various work places.

"Germany,"  Alessandro communicated eagerly over the morning cups of coffee, "Is welcoming immigrants particularly from our part of the world.  We could take the opportunity and see if it works out. Jobs are plentiful and good paying. I could go first get settled confirm the opportunity and then you come along later."

Marco sat silent for some time munching thoughtfully.

 "Good idea,"  he replied hesitantly, then he asked, "Where did you acquire the news?"

"From a friend. I confirmed later in the People's Digest."

"Well, anything to escape this hell of a life we are living."

After an eleborate deliberation both brothers agreed to try the opportunity and so Alessandro had set of to Germany.

And now bad news. Jeremy decided he wasn't going to let this go. There was news some survived the shipwreck and were trapped in an island.

And so he made arrangements with merchant ships travelling that sea route. Most of the sailors discouraged the distraught brother and said it was a fruitless mission not bound to yield anything desirable. One merciful sailor offered him a  job aboard his vessel after hearing his pitiful story, but Marco's mind was made up. On a Thursday he set out on a merchant ship travelling one of the Mediterranean Sea routes.  )

They endured vicious attacks from pirates, got caught up in boisterous winds that threatened to rip the vessel apart. When they docked at the Port of Valencia, the sea captain asked him if he was still going on, and he replied in the affirmative, though with heavy sorrow in his voice.

During the ninth week of their travel, the ship rested on the sixth island, Crete. Here they fell prey to a savage cannibalistic tribe inhabiting the island. Here Jeremy met his lost brother and no words could explain the joy he felt at the sight of him. The two brothers quickly and happily got reacquainted, and Alessandro told his story to his brother. It happened that after their ship capsized,  he had been carried and deposited by the waves on this particular island where he was picked up by the tribe.  Here the two happy, reunited brothers and the occupants of the ship in which Marco had sailed remained in captivity, until by some lucky chance, were rescued by a fleet of the English navy on a special mission for the King of England.  The English navy that rescued them was just in time to prevent them from being canibalized. From the point of rescue the whole party were conveyed to English occupied territories. As it turned out the admiral of the fleet was a relation of the two brothers, in fact their father's younger brother. He was named Andrea. He had set off to England after a major quarrel with his brother, Marco and Alessandro's father over the sharing of properties left them by their parents. There in England he was met with good fortune and prospered so well in the navy of England he had joined that in a few decades he had become an admiral. The two brothers learnt this while relating their whole experience to him. It was clear he was related to them as he told them the history of their family exactly as their father had told them while alive. He also knew certain things about their family that only them and their late parents knew and indeed he bore a striking resemblance to their late dad. The two brothers had been reunited and had also found the good fortune they had been so much after by a mysterious twist of fate. They were introduced into the wonderful life afforded by the affluence and influence of their paternal uncle.

25 years later Marco sits in a beach resort bathed by the golden rays of the sun and enjoying the pleasures of the resort. His three adult children and his lovely wife are with him on that seaside resort.  He can't help but have overwhelming feelings of nostalgia as he recalls the memories of his adventures in his journey to find his lost brother. All the dangers he braved and all the difficulties he endured going from beach to beach seeking his brother. These beach memories has quite the emotional effect on him as he sheds some tears.&bnb;

But inwardly he is happy that he undertook that daring even foolish journey for by it his brother was rescued and they both found the good fortune they had been after all their lives years ago since their parents passed.

The End.

Your story of adventure on the high seas was entertaining, one of the brothers rescued the other and in the end they found good fortune, after their sacrifices and hardships. The risk was worth it.
