As she stared into his eyes she couldn't help but see the guilt written all over them. He had indeed done what this woman was accusing him of. But it couldn't be, she refused to believe it. The Jude she knew couldn't hurt a fly not much of do something as horrible as domestic violence. She looked at him, so many emotions running through her already confused mind. A battle was going on inside her mind. Her love for Jude clouding her judgment at that very moment. Refusing to accept the truth she saw in his eyes. It refused to accept what this woman was saying.

Her husband was not violent, much less of a woman beater. Besides her husband's name was Jude not Victor and this woman kept on calling him Victor. She was probably be a lunatic, insane or something, she thought to herself, her mind coming up with other reasons to justify what was happening. .

Rebecca was their new neighbor. She was a young woman which had just recently moved in to the apartment next door. Sofia, who was desperately in need for for some company especially in thier quiet estate jumped at the thought of becoming friends with her. Slowly she began visiting the new neighbor, Rebecca. Exchanging pleasantries and sending gifts when she could. Soon the two of them kicked it off they became friends like she wanted, laughing and gisting at each other's house for hours, or so she thought. However, Sofia had another thing coming for her and she realized it a bit too late.

She looked around her to find herself on the floor, in Rebecca's house, her hands and legs both tied up. The last thing she remembered was discussing with Rebecca while sipping the juice she offered her. And then, she suddenly felt heavy. She couldn't lift her finger. Her eyelids suddenly felt too heavy to keep them open and she slept off. Realization dawned on her that Rebecca had drugged her. But that wasn't all, Her husband, Jude was here also lying unconsciously beside her. What was happening, she thought to herself. Her husband wasn't supposed to be here, he was supposed to be at work. Except maybe he had came back home and find out I was missing. Jut how long has she been tied up here she wondered, questions upon questions kept swirling around in her head, waiting to be answered.

Using her legs she tried kicking her husband in an attempt to wake him up. After several trials of kicks he finally woke up.

" Good, you're both awake finally" Rebecca said walking into the living room leisurely, with an evil gleam in her eyes.

" What's happening, Rebecca why did you tie us up " Sofia asked her innocently.

However as Jude saw his Ex, he froze on the spot, they stared at each other for what looked like an hour but it was barely some seconds, so many unspoken words passing between them.

" Is that fear I see in your eyes Victor" She said laughing.

' Back then I didn't believe you've ever feared any one before considering the way you mercilessly beat me up everyday" She continued

' I'm so sorry Rebecca " Jude said with deep regrets in his eyes.

His past was a disgraceful one, one he was ashamed of. He had been a monster back then. He was just still young when he got married to Rebecca. Young and foolish. He didn't know any other way to get respect, and Rebecca kept on pushing him, nagging and quarrelling him almost every day. Still that wasn't enough reason to beat up your wife over small issues. He had an uncontrollable temper back then, and unfortunately for Rebecca she was the one that bore the result of such bad temper every single time. And that was why he left. He thought it was best for every one.

But that was a long time, he had been a change man from that time and everyday his conscience ate at him, for what he did to her and now it seems like his past has come back to haunt him.

Sofia however was getting all confused

" What's going on here" , she demanded

" And how do you know her, I thought you said you've never met the new neighbour" she asked turning to Jude her husband.

" Oh I'm his Ex wife whom he turned to a punching bag, be careful you might be next" Rebecca answers her with that evil gleam in her eyes

and that was when she looked at Jude to see the guilt in his eyes. Confirming all that Rebecca had just said. She couldn't believe all that she had just heard, she needed vocal confirmation.

" Is this true Jude' she asked, her voice barely a whisper, afraid to hear the answer she already knew.

Jude bowed his head in shame,

"Answer me" Sofia shouted angrily

"Yes"; he said shamefully.

He went on explaining to her all that had happened and her Rebecca was his past, how he was no a changed man and how he deeply regrets everything he had done. Sofia couldn't help but weep bitterly for the unfortunate woman who was acting out of anger and vengeance, for all the pains she had to pass through and most of all for the betrayal. Her husband had been a monster, lied to her and now she was paying for the sins of what she knew nothing about.

She began pleading with Rebecca who was determined to kill them in a cruelsome way. However a Knock on the door interrupted them. threatening to kill them if they made any sound, Rebecca went to answer it. To find the police barging inside her house.

" Officers, to what do I owe this Visit" she asked innocently.

" We are looking for Mr and Mrs Jude" they said.

" Well I don't know where they are, I haven't seen them since this week, I think they travelled" she answered them.

" We have a warrant to search this whole place" they said making their way to search the whole place but she stopped them right in their tracks pointing a gun at them.

" Leave or I'll shoot"

" Drop the gun" the police told her, but she wouldn't budge.

As they made a step into he living room she shot at them but missed and they had no choice but to fire back in self defence. Mr and Mrs Jude were rescued thanks to their gateman who had reported to the police. While Rebecca lied on the ground in a pool of her own blood.

Sort:

Even if one repents ones past can still catch up with the person. I guess that is just the way the universe works.
Nice story 👍🏼
