A man found himself in a strange place. He was standing in the middle of a lonely road, he couldn't remember anything before now. There were trees on the sidewalks but behind the trees it was dark, he also couldn't make out what was ahead because there was fog everywhere. He couldn't even see the sky.
He began to walk foward, it seemed like a natural thing to do. And then suddenly stopped. He thought, why not turn back and when he turned, there was nothing but gross darkness.
He was bathe with a cool breeze all over and the hairs on his arms stood up.
He put his arms around himself and kept walking.
After some minutes he got to a point where the road split into two paths.
To his right was one that seemed a road to a big city while to his left was one like a path leading to an alley. He looked back to his right and thought he saw car backlights. He squinted his eyes and saw that they were actually cars.
They were moving at such high speeds. It seemed like it was night there, but there was artificial lightenings – traffic lights, lights from buildings and neon lights from advert signs.
Besides the cars, he also could see so many people on the streets.
He looked back to the path to his left and saw a woman walking through the alley, she held a book in her hands. The whole alley was dark and the only way the lady could see the path was because her feet shone. As she moved further the path revealed itself. There was a light shinning from the far end of the path. It wasn't like a straight beam of light but was as though a candle light and it was as though that was what the woman was headed for.
At first, his natural instincts were to take to the wider path. And he was about to when someone else came by and took the narrower path without second thoughts.
Now, he look around. He thought maybe he had missed a sign or something. He wondered what made the passerby so sure of where he was headed and in the midst of his thoughts another person passed by and took the wider path as though it was the only one.
This man stood still, he couldn't understand what made these person's chose the path they did without even looking at the other. He wondered if he was the only one that saw two paths, but that wouldn't be probable as he saw them go different paths.
He was bitting his fingers as his eyes swerved from one path to another, back and forth. The wider path looked the best but yet something told him otherwise.
