The beacon on top of the lighthouse in my community was always seen as a symbol for the sailors and people who have traveled far. It made it easy for them to locate our community. Lightning struck on a faithful day and the light went out. This became a huge problem as the people were scared of going missing due to what happened some years ago.
Samuel, a teenager who worked on the boats, made up his mind to fix the light on the lighthouse. His co-workers warned him to not attempt such and he asked why they answered “have you not heard of the story” he replied “what story” they answered go to the town square and ask Mr Tolu your uncle. Samuel left all he was working with and ran to the townsquare to see his uncle. He found his uncle in the workshop and he greeted him in Yoruba saying “ekasun sir”which meant good afternoon. His uncle Mr tolu was a bit surprised to see him as he was expected to be at the docks during the day.His uncle was busy working on a car so he assisted him while there were busy at work “he asked "i told my friends i have plans of going inside the white house but they laughed at my plans. His uncle knew he was still going there so he said to him be careful whatever you find in there is of your own consequence.
Mr Tolu said to him "since you're keen on going inside then there's a couple of things you need to get with you before you go up there". He then listed out the things Samuel would need like a torch , the parts required for the beacon if he was to replace it Samuel thanked his uncle and he set off on his mission. Samuel got all the things Mr Tolu advised him to and when he got to the whitehouse it had a scary feeling to it like it was a haunted house . He began to go up floor to floor. It was an unending walk to the top as he went on and on.
It was almost a week since he set on his mission and Samuel had not returned home. The people of the town grew worried and began making assumptions that maybe something happened to him. His uncle told the people he warned Samuel not to go inside the lighthouse but he refused. Samuel continued to go up and up the lighthouse tirelessly as he began to wonder if he was ever going to get to the top of the building. With each day passing he began to lose pace as his legs grew tired of climbing. He got to the floor where he found a door.It had a short staircase which led to the top of the lighthouse. He wondered how he got there but he reminded himself why he was there in the first place so he located the spoilt beacon and replaced it and the light came up.
The townspeople noticed the light on the beacon and they began rejoicing but wondered if Samuel was going to make it back home.He began to descend the building but it didn't take him a full day to get down .It was so unusual what he just went through and strange even. As he got back to the town he went to visit his Uncle and said he thanked him for his advice. He didn't tell the community what he went through to keep people away from the lighthouse even though he knew they were afraid for no reason he saw why everyone should not go there.
The beacon was back up and the light on it made the sailors happy. Samuel became a hero in the town as people sang praises wherever he went he was also a beacon of light on his own.
