A little boy of five years old is seen sitting on a dining with a cake in front of him. By his side were his numerous siblings. His father sat at the other end of the table with a broad smile on his face. His mother walked from kitchen to sitting room trying to get everything in order. A perfect home if you ask me.
"Where's Jay?"
"He is in there staring at the album again."
Jay was lost in the images on the album that he didn't hear the approaching footsteps of his wife.
"Jay, what's wrong."
Jay closed the album immediately and turned to Martha.
"Nothing, I'm great."
"Jay, you haven't touched those pictures in a long time. We both know what happened the last time they were in your hands. Do I need to be worried?"
"For real I'm fine. Actually I've been wandering if my chin is getting bigger, I needed to compare with some old pictures."
Jay tried to make a joke, hoping to change the topic. Deep down, Martha knew that something was up, Jay never looked at those pictures unless he had something going on in his head.
"What are we having for breakfast?" Jay asked as he led his wife by the hand out of the bedroom.
"Since we won't be going to work today, I was thinking I should actually cook something for breakfast."
"Actually, there's something I have to do with some friends."
Suddenly Jay heard a piercing noise almost deafening his ear. He screamed out, with hands in both ears he fell to the ground. Martha ran towards him.
"Jay, what's wrong?"
Jay got back on his feet and walked towards the door.
"It's nothing. I'm fine."
"Jay, you can't tell me you are fine. Your ear is bleeding. Please talk to me."
"I'll explain everything when I get back." Jay said as he walked out of the house.
Jay's car came to a halt in front of a church, or so it seemed. He walked pass the congregation towards the alter and into the inner Chambers of the alter.
"Jay! What are you doing here? You are not supposed to be seen here."
"You can address me by my real name, it's just the two of us here."
"Look Caleb, I don't have the answers you are searching for."
"You are the only one that can help me. It's getting worse, I can't hold it back anymore."
"You got it all wrong Caleb. The only one that can help you is your father. Did you expect to remain human forever."
"You know I can't go back home."
"Look Caleb, you've got to stop coming here. People are beginning to ask questions. Every time you come in here bleeding, with the entire church watching. I don't want any problem with the humans."
Jay walked out of the church devastated and disappointed. He could feel his mortal skin decaying. Meanwhile, Martha sat in the sitting room looking perplexed as it was past mid night and her husband was not back home. She decided to go in search of him.
"How did you know I'd be here?" A wasted Jay asked as Martha tried to help him up.
"I went by the church and Good old Sam thought you might be here."
"There's nothing good about Sam, you shouldn't go there by yourself."
"I was worried Jay. Did you expect me to fold my hands and wait your return."
"That's exactly what you should have done. I can take care of myself. I'm stronger than you can ever imagine."
"Well I hope you are strong enough, this is going to sting a bit."
Martha injected Jay with some strong sedative and he passed out instantly and some men in suit walked in and carried his body.
Few hours later, Jay woke up to find himself tied up in an empty room with Martha standing in front of him.
"Martha is this some sort of joke. What is going on here?"
"Jay do you take me for a fool, or should I call you Caleb."
"Martha, I don't know what you think you know. But you must let me go and I'll explain."
"All these years I have been living with the Almighty Caleb. The banished son of Emperor Judik. I kept praying that one day you'd open up to me and I wouldn't have to do this. Do you have any idea what the blood of your kind is worth in the black market this days."
***"You are doing this for money. Martha listen to me, there's a lot more at stake here. If you keep making my heart beat faster with those drugs you are pumping into my blood, you are going to get my father's attention."
" You can't trick me anymore. Your father forsake you a long time ago. Give him more sedatives, and you start the extraction process."
I could here each drop of the sedative mixing with my blood. My heart was beating at a rapid rate. It felt like my head was going to explode.
"Martha, you don't understand. My father would never let me die. That is my curse, He would destroy anybody that tries to kill me."
Jay could hardly make a complete sentence, he was battling with keeping his eyes open. Then came the bright light at the entrance of the room.
"What the hell is that. Go and check it out." Martha ordered.
Repeated gunshots were heard, people screamed and wailed. Suddenly everywhere became absolutely quiet. Jay managed to open his eyes and saw Martha being lifted off her feet by a shadow.
"Father please spare her life." Those were his last words as he finally gave in to the sedatives.
The next time he opened his eyes, there he was in his father's arms. He looked back and recognized the familiar darkness and shadows. He hasn't been here in ages, he realized that he was on his way home.
