The memory of tomorrow

"What time is it?" I asked, my voice trembling.

"6:15." Answered my friend, Sofia, with an amused smile. But I knew it was a lie.

The time was 6:05, and in 10 minutes, a car event would change our lives.

I woke up with the feeling that something was wrong. The room seemed distorted as if I were underwater. I felt trapped in a nightmare, and the sunlight streaming through the window seemed like a cruel reminder of reality.

"What's wrong? Why are you so pale?" She asked, approaching me with concern, dissipating the previous smile.

"I don't know..." I answered, not knowing what to say. The truth was that I had seen something I couldn't explain. I had seen the future.

"Come on, what do you think? What's troubling you?" She asked with a curious look on her face.

"The accident..." I said, my voice choking. She looked at me in disbelief, and I knew I couldn't tell her. I couldn't explain to her that I had seen the future, that I had seen her death. The sidewalks filled with passersby, as in every morning, today was different. It was a fresh and vivid scene in my memory. My racing heart denoted my increasing tension.

"What time is it?" I asked again, trying to distract myself.

"6:15, I told you!" As we walked to the bus stop. But I knew it was a lie. The time was 7:06, and in 9 minutes, everything would change. I glanced slyly both ways, looking for the killer car.

"Sofi, stop! Let's go back to the apartment. I forgot my purse."

"No, Cassandra! If we miss the bus, we'll be late again for Professor Smith's class. And he's already threatened to fail us."

"What time is it?" I asked for the third time, knowing that she would lie again.

"What an obsession you have with the time! 06:17, hurry up. I stopped and pulled her by the arm, ready to change destiny."

"You're coming with me, period!"

Sofia frowned and tried to retort, but my withering look, one full of fire as I had never done before, made her shut up and obey.

I walked as slowly as I could without letting go of her wrist, ignoring the mixed expression of bewilderment and discontent. The silence in the mind contrasted with the street bustle. I returned to the uncertainty of reality when I saw the time on the cell phone screen: 06:14. I stopped at the top of the steps and turned to see the lonely bus stop in the distance. The thud of the impact on the bus body, right, at 06:15, brought Sofia out of her anger.

"Casandra! Do you see what I did? You were right!" She shouted excitedly.

"On this occasion, maybe? Tomorrow, I don't know. Let's hope for the best."

I liked how you built the tension in your story. I really felt the foreboding feeling that it intends to convey before the crash happened. I wish it would have been longer, but I think it's fine that you just highlighted the climax.

Hello, @ridgette

Yes, I also consider the story to be short. But I didn't want to deviate or saturate the essence of the story with details. Sometimes a little goes a long way, and I think, based on your comment, I accomplished my goal. Besides, the fact that you will want to read more is a good sign to continue with my writing.

Thanks for stopping by.

Premonition, warning. A warning, a sign that it can be changed.
Destiny becomes the script approved by the Director. Free will, an improvisation that receives approval.
Health, peace, and well-being friend @janaveda

That is right, my friend.

¡Uf, me encantó! Al mejor estilo de destino final (pero por ahora se salvaron). Yo sueño algo así y me quedo en casa una semana 🙈 del miedo que me da.
Eso me recuerda que en estos días soñé que peleaba con un oso 😂 por cierto que yo gané. Me pregunto si será buena señal.

Me encantó leerte @janaveda 🤩

¡Ganaste! Supongo que tu sueño implica que tus fuerzas y voluntad son mayores que la que tiene un oso, y eso no es poca cosa, mi amiga.

Encantado de que el relato en inglés haya sido de tu agrado.

Saludos.
