Under his radar

Obsession has never been the best kind of feeling to have, as it can drive a person into taking actions that a normal sane person wouldn't take.

Amy woke up, took a glance around her room and sighed.
"It must've been a dream." She muttered to herself and got out of the bed.
She headed to the kitchen and took a glass of water, which had been her every morning routine. Walking out of the kitchen, she went to another door that was close to her bedroom.

"Lisa, you gotta wake up now, or we'll be late for work again." She called out and seconds later, the door opened and a sleepy lady walked out, still trying to rub the sleep off her eyes.

"Thanks, roomie. You never cease to mother me " Lisa said and walked past Amy to the kitchen.
Soon, the two got dressed and headed out for work.

Amy and Lisa have been friends since high school and after college, they relocated and decided to live together in the same apartment. They also worked in the same company, thus, they went to work together and always came home together as well.

"Amy, are you alright?" Lisa asked her as they walked into the company.

"Yeah, I'm good. Don't I look it?" Amy asked her and feigned a smile.

"Don't do that with me, Amy. You haven't said a word since we left the house and the circles under your eyes are much more obvious than usual. What's going on?" Lisa asked her in a stern voice.

"I'm good. I've just been having some kind of weird dreams lately. That's all." Amy replied quietly.

"Do you wanna talk about it?" Lisa asked her.

"Perhaps, if we get back, we could talk about it then." Amy responded and after a short hug, they parted ways.

All through the time Amy had spent at work, she wasn't her usual self. She was rather dull and unfocused and as a result of this, she was asked to take the rest of the day off.
On her way to the company entrance, she bumped into a man who had walked into the company. She couldn't see his face and when she opened her mouth to apologize to him, he brushed past her and said nothing. Amy felt chills run down her body and she stood there, staring after the man and wondering who he could've been.

"Amy!!!" Someone called out her name and she turned to see Lisa walking towards her.

"Who are you staring at like that? I heard from one of the workers. Are you okay? I knew something was wrong with you but you wouldn't say anything." Lisa said to her and touched her neck to feel her temperature.

"You don't have to worry, Lisa, I'm okay." Amy replied.

"I doubt that. What are you hiding, Amy?" Lisa asked her.

"I'm not hiding anything from you and you know I would never do that." Amy said in response.

"We're going to continue this conversation when I get home. I need you to promise me that you'll spill whatever the problem is when I get home." Lisa said.

Amy nodded a response and hugged Lisa, then she walked into the streets.

Amy got on a train and once she was seated, she took out her phone and flipped through photos, all in a bid to distract herself. She had felt that she was being watched by someone on the train, but when she looked around, she couldn't spot anyone suspicious, so she stayed on her phone so she wouldn't look like a freak to the other passengers.

She opened the door to their apartment and walked into her room. A scream stifled in her throat at the sight of her room. Her bed was neatly arranged and her books were stacked neatly on her bedside table. Her headset which never left her bed, was placed on the table too. She rushed out of the room and walked into Lisa's room, to meet it as messy as it had been when they had left the house.

"Who would arrange my room?" She asked herself.

She clutched her chest in fear and ran into the kitchen to take water, but her cup which never left the kitchen counter was now placed inside the fridge instead. Fear knotted her chest and she went to the kitchen sink and drank from the tap with her hands. After that, she hurried out of the house and sat outside till late in the evening, when Lisa finally came home from work.

"Amy, what in God's name are you doing out here? You didn't even bother to change into another cloth or drop your bag at least." Lisa said when she got to where Amy sat.

"Lisa, I'm scared." Amy cried out and fell into Lisa's embrace.

"Shush now, let's go inside. What happened?" Lisa asked her.

"I think he's back, Lisa. I can feel him wherever I go. At the office, it felt like I was being watched by someone, inside the train and now, my room was mysteriously arranged by the time I got back and my cup was inside the fridge, not on the kitchen counter. He's watching me." Amy sobbed on.

"Amy, I need you to be calm. This could be your head messing with you. Jordan has been in prison and even if he got out, he couldn't have flown half across the world to haunt you here. Why don't we go in and I'll check your room? If it'll make you feel any better, I could have our door lock changed tomorrow morning." Lisa calmly said to Amy, trying to keep her from bawling her eyes out.

Lisa helped Amy to her feet and they both went into the house. She went into Amy's room and her jaw dropped when she saw how arranged the room had been. She sighed in annoyance and walked out to see the scared Amy staring at her.
"I just got off the phone with the officer that had been in charge of the case, he said Jordan's dead." Lisa said to her.

"Dead? How?" Amy asked her.

"Well, I thought you'd be happy to hear that but you rather have a look of concern in your eyes. Anyway, the officer said that he ran into a truck and that was it. A pleasant tragedy, you would agree?" Lisa threw her hands open in the demonstration.

Amy looked away and kept mute, she was lost in deep thoughts.
She and Jordan had dated for two months but it had been unbearable for her, so she broke up with him and her troubles began. Jordan stalked her and ruined every good thing that could've come her way. It was hell while it lasted and during this time, she was fired from her place of work as well because she couldn't work effectively. With the help of Lisa, they managed to get him arrested and they relocated to another country and began their life anew, but now, she was beginning to get the feelings she used to have when he was still haunting her life.

"Amy, snap out of it. The guy's dead and even if he's not, we're a million miles away from him. I'll have the lock changed in the morning and I'll ask a few cop friends to keep an eye out for us. Just be calm, that's all I need you to do." Lisa said to her and hugged her close.

That night, Amy slept in Lisa's room, and the next day, their door lock was changed.
Amy woke up in the middle of the night. Since the lock was changed, she slept in her room. She opened her eyes, feeling that she had been tapped by someone. She turned on her side lamp and saw a note on her desk. She reached for the desk and a long scream erupted from her. Lisa ran into her bedroom, looking everywhere to see what had made her friend scream so much.

"Amy, what's the matter?" Lisa asked her.
Amy pointed her finger towards the note on the desk and Lisa quickly grabbed it, and in it were the words:
I've missed you so much Amy but I doubt you've missed me as well. I'm here now and I'm watching you like always.

Lisa shuddered in disbelief. She dropped the paper and went to Amy's side.
"I told you he's back. What do we do now? I need to leave." Amy wailed on Lisa's shoulders.

"Amy, calm down. We'll have to wait till morning, then we can report to the police. You don't have to run away because of him." Lisa said to her.

"What could I possibly say to the police? Shall I tell them that my ex-boyfriend suddenly got back from the dead and now he's stalking me?" Amy asked Lisa.

"You'll be fine. We'll figure this out. I just need you to stay put." Lisa pleaded with Amy.
She understood that something needed to be done quickly or Amy would never be happy again with a stalker watching her.

"He's going to ruin me, Lisa. He has been following and watching all of my movements. Lisa, what can we do?" Amy cried on and all Lisa could do at that moment, was to find a way to comfort her friend who was panicking beyond control.

Hello @jennyzee1,

You have a good build up in this story. Great scene development. Your description of the apartment when Amy returns is great, especially the detail about her coffee cup. However, the story stops abruptly. When Amy asks what they can do at the end, we want to know. The author has a responsibility to resolve that issue one way or another. It's because you have kept readers' interest that they want to know. If the story had been boring we wouldn't care:)

Read this Inkwell post about story arcs. In this post you will find a good explanation for how an author should wind up a story and give the reader a satisfying ending.

Also, please engage with two authors for each story you publish here. We see that you did engage with one. Thank you.

Good writing, @jennyzee1

Thanks for the kind words and the corrections. I'll keep them at heart and try not to indulge in any of the listed mistakes again.
