When I was a child, my mummy threw the best birthday parties in the town(she was an event planner) . She always made sure there was plenty of jollof rice, fried chicken, puff-puff, and bottles of Fanta and Coke. But my sixth birthday was different. It was the most memorable one because she brought a clown to the party.
The morning of my birthday, I woke up to the smell of freshly baked cake mixed with fried chicken 😋 and the sound of my favorite music playing in the living room. My mummy was busy decorating the house with colorful balloons . She had invited all my friends from school and the neighborhood. I couldn’t wait to see what surprises she had for the day.
By noon, the house was filled with people (family and friends as well as my neighbors) . We played games like dancing round the chairs, cards, ludo etc. Just as we were about to start another round of game, there was a knock on the door. My mummy opened it, and a clown walked in, the children were scared. I was also scared because I have not had an encounter with a clown before 😂 .
The clown’s name was Baba Dodo. He wore a bright red suit with oversized yellow buttons, a huge rainbow-colored wig, and a pair of giant shoes that made a funny noise every time he took a step.
All the children later screamed with excitement as Baba Dodo entered the room, honking a horn and doing a funny dance. He started by making balloon animals for everyone. I got a balloon lion, and my best friend Tunde got a balloon giraffe. Baba Dodo twisted the balloons so quickly we were all surprised.
Baba Dodo performed magic tricks. He made a card trick, He made a coin disappear and then reappear behind my friend Bola’s ear. We all clapped and cheered, amazed by his tricks.
Then came the funniest part of the show. Baba Dodo brought out a small bucket and told us it was filled with magic water. He asked me to help him with his next trick. I was a bit nervous but very excited. He whispered to me to hold the bucket carefully and not to spill it. As I held it, he pretended to trip, and the bucket tipped over, but instead of water, colorful confetti spilled out all over me and the floor. Everyone laughed so hard that tears streamed down our faces.
Baba Dodo later led us in a dance competition. He played some somgs, and we all danced our hearts out. Baba Dodo’s funny moves had everyone in stitches. He even got my mummy and the other parents to join in. It was hilarious to see them try to keep up with us kids.
When it was time for Baba Dodo to leave, we were all a little sad, but he promised he would come back next year. He gave me a big hug and handed me a special balloon crown, saying I was the birthday king.
As the party wound down and my friends went home, I couldn’t stop talking about Baba Dodo. That night, as I went to bed, I hugged my balloon crown and felt so grateful to my mummy for giving me the best birthday ever 😂 .
