It's Time to Say Goodbye đź«‚

How do you feel when you realize that you're leaving an important place in your life which you have loved so much after many years of being part of it!! That's disheartening right?

I can feel his pain the same way I felt when I was crossing over from the main campus to the college of medicine which has its campus in a very distant location. Yes, I know you can relate to what I'm saying.

To give you a tip of my story, when I finished my first year, at the main campus, as a medical student, you will leave the main campus to the medical campus which is located in a different city of Enugu state. While my days were counting down for me to leave for my medical campus, I felt this sadness inside me because I was going to miss a lot of things. Yes, my friends, the environment, the liveliness of the hostels, the desert found in the campus… just to mention a few! Then I wasn't ready to leave that campus because of my experiences over there.

But that's it. I realized that was the reality if you must study any medical course in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. I made up my mind to move to my new environment which is UNEC after just a few days of meeting the people I loved so much.

Yeah, that's Emmanuel, my roommate. He is going to leave this medical school very soon. He's a graduate and he just signed out recently. The course he studied? Oh yes. Radiography!
Well, I don't know much about the course because that's not my field, but from the little things I have heard them discuss, their work centers majorly on using X-Ray to visualize the internal structure of the body for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes and stuff like that. His field of study is very complex and sophisticated which employs modern machines. So I won't be able to give you the masterclass you need.

And between, some people here might not relate to what this course means. So let us not get carried away please! I'm focusing on why I'm Putting this whole thing down!

My roommate will be leaving this campus soon after 4 good years of being an undergraduate. Although they haven't done their induction yet, that is coming soon and it will be a blast! Why did I say that! Well, it might Interest you to know that the radiography department here in UNEC is considered as the richest department due to the fact that students in this department get doings in another level. And what is doings in a Nigerian slogan? It actually means someone who spends extravagantly! They're just rich kids. Lol

So on a fateful morning, I can't tell what really came over him. He requested that I take some pictures while he was washing his dishes. I was prompted to ask, why taking pictures at that particular moment? Like, of all the places he could have taken pictures, he decided to do this here. Well, guys, the answer he gave me was really chilling as it ran down my spine.

He replied, “Well, it's obvious I won't be staying here any longer and I want to keep at least this picture to remind me of my days in this room and as well, this collage when I leave. I watched his face as he said this without hiding his feelings. I can tell he was not really happy knowing that he won't be staying any much longer in the school again.

Well, I couldn't help but to snap him as he requested. Smile, I know I'm not that good at taking pictures but I did a little bit justice to his demand. So I snapped him as he washed the dishes.

For me, this is how life goes. Everyone has this stage of life that they won't like to leave even when you know you do no longer belong there. And what can you do? If you feel like crying, why not do so if that will make you feel relieved. After all, life comes with many things. He'll be leaving us soon to face the labor market. But before that, he must have been inducted into his profession and like I said earlier, it's gonna be a blast.

I'll keep you posted when that happens. For now, allow me to drop my pen! 🖊️

A heartwarming piece...
I wish your roommate luck as he finally starts his career ✨

Thanks @seki1 ,he really appreciates it

I read somewhere some time ago, "take pictures on every journey so that when you've attained a certain height or achieved that goal, you can look back at the pictures as they have become memories to cherish forever" I also think that was what your roommate was trying to achieve.

Congratulations to your roommate, @jsalvage

Thanks so much for stopping by. Yes, memory keeps flowing with pictures.

Hello @jsalvage, This is a very nice piece. You have an almost conversational way of writing that is very pleasing to read. You don't need AI! You write fine by yourself :)

We have curated this although there are a couple of issues we hope you will clear up. One is the tag. You note that this is fiction, but it appears to be nonfiction. If it is nonfiction, we would like you to use the appropriate tag. Also, you state that you snapped the picture of your roommate. It's good form to just state somewhere in the blog, perhaps at the end, that the pictures were taken by you.

It was a pleasure to read this piece. We hope to see more of your work here.

Thanks so much @theinkwell , for you for support and encouragement. I promise to improve with time and put more of my experiences in writing, here. It's a privilege and I won't take that for granted.
All the necessary corrections would be put into consideration when making my future posts.

And between, what will it cost me to get the membership tag from the community?

Dear @jsalvage !
I read your article late.

I saw news reports that universities in Nigeria are currently closing due to financial problems.
That's why I assumed you transferred to another medical college!

By the way, do you cook your own meals in your college dorm?

I hope you are happy at your new college!
