Mary and Jake met when they were 18 years old, they were both stuck in a train station on a rainy day, and before they could realize it, a conversation began between them that made each person feel like they had met lifetimes before.
They had continued speaking for hours and before they could exchange numbers, their trains which were going in the opposite directions came and they had to jump in, both in regret, but as fate may have it, they were meant to meet again, and meeting again led to relationship which led to a marriage at 25 and perhaps they were meant to have a happy ending, but they had to work for it because life didn't plan on handing it to them.
“Mary, are you ready? I am running late and today is not the day to be late”.
“Jacob, if you want me to hurry up then please don't rush me, you know how I get when I am being rushed”.
This was Mary and Jacob’s routine every morning, Jacob hurrying and Mary getting him late but, today wasn't like other days and Jacob needed to be on time.
You see, Jacob had been unemployed for a few months and he had finally landed a big job interview due to the referral of an ex-high school lover, Mary didn't know this and he wasn't about to screw the interview or his marriage by telling her yet.
After a few minutes more of screaming at the top of his lungs at Mary, she was finally ready and he dropped her off at work while he went to his interview.
The interview was at a His ex’s father's company and if he landed it, he could offer Mary everything, and maybe, she could quit her job and focus on getting pregnant; they wanted to try a bunch of times but, Mary couldn't afford to get pregnant because of her job.
While Jacob drove, he was lost in thought about how he would be as a father and before he realized it, he was at the company for his interview.
His interview was a short one and he was told immediately that he had aced the interview and that he was employed which gave him so much joy as he drove home happily awaiting Mary’s coming.
The moment Mary came into their home, he screamed “I got a job, baby” and Mary jumped on his in excitement asking him to tell her about the company and everything, Jacob hesitated but he told her and she immediately blew up.
“You got a job at your ex’s father's company, do you get how crazy that is”.
“What is so crazy about that Mary, I deserve this job”.
“Deserve, you deserve it or she just wants you back in her fingers”.
“Mary, don't say that, I dated her when I was 16, freaking 16, she doesn't want me”.
“She doesn't want you? How about all the times she called you begging for you to take her back and now, you think she offered you a job for nothing?”.
“That was a long time ago, I deserve this job Mary”.
“Do you really deserve it or did you get it because you are about to be the boss's daughter's toy”.
“I can't believe you would say that to me, especially since I did this for us, for our future, so that you would get a break from that awful job, you know what, I won't have this conversation anymore”.
As Jacob said those words, he stormed off to their room leaving Mary in tears and regrets, Mary knew that Jacob was doing it for her, but she was jealous of his ex and everything she felt she offered to Jacob.
Mary contemplated sleeping in the living room but, she and Jacob had promised to never to go to bed angry at each other, and since she had caused the argument, she went begging to him.
“Jacob, I am sorry, I am just scared of losing you”.
“I get it, but trust me, please, I chose you, you! remember that”.
Mary and Jacob had a conversation bearing their hearts out and they went to bed that night not only happier for the night, but for the rest of their lives.
Jacob took the job and worked hard enough for Mary to quit hers and Mary after a few months bore a child. Finally, I can say that they lived happily ever after.
