The melodious music in the air is getting everyone in the mood for a party. It's the traditional wedding ceremony of Gika and Mike. Gika's family compound is filled with lots of guests, who are patiently waiting for the ceremony to begin.
Gika is a beautiful damsel; she is loved by everyone in the community. She is hardworking and intelligent. Gika is one of the young medical doctors who were given scholarships to further their education in Canada. Gika has become a role model in Horibak village, as most parents use her as an example when talking to their kids.
Gika met Mike at the university, and immediately their love story began. Mike is a tall, handsome young man with a husky voice, which makes him noticeable any time he speaks. Mike is a civil engineer, and he is regarded as one of the best civil engineers around.
The marriage ceremony begins with the groom's family dancing to traditional Horibak music. The smile on the faces of Mike's parents is so big that one can say they are truly happy for their son. Mike's parents are proud of their only son, who over the years has proved to be an intelligent and hardworking young man with high morals. Mike is known for his integrity, courage, and contentment.
Mike's family dances to their seat, and the crowd is in awe of their aura.
The music tune of the tempo music of the music is increased. And all the guests rise as the bride's family dances into the venue. The maidens are beautiful, dressed in traditional Horibak attire with beautiful beads on their necks. The elderly women are waving their beautiful hand fans made from palm fronts.
Mike and his friends make entry to the venue, and everyone is shouting as they are shocked by how well the men are dancing. The crowd is cheering them on. And Mike steps out and displays his dancing steps to the amazement of everyone. Even Mike's parents cannot believe their eyes. Everyone is shocked at how well Mike can dance.
Gika is dressed in beautiful Horibak traditional attire, with beads on her hair and ankles, her face covered with a white veil, a sign of her virginity. She dances into the venue in the company of beautiful maidens. The young men in the crowd are feeding their eyes with the beauty of the maidens. The excitement in the air is at its peak.
It's time for the marriage rite to begin. The Chief of Horibak calls the groom and bride to step out and perform the marriage rites. A woman screams as she runs to meet the groom and bride. "You people cannot get married," she screams. Everyone is shocked by this. "Who are you, and why are you trying to disrupt this ceremony?" the chief asked.
The woman kneels and says, "I have a confession to make. These two are my children, and they are twins." There is murmuring in the crowd. And someone from the crowd shouts, "She is a mad woman." The woman with tears in her eyes says, "They are my children; twenty-four years ago I got pregnant while in high school." I informed the young man who got me pregnant, and he denied the pregnancy. Immediately his parents sent him away to another country. When my parents discovered I was pregnant, they took me to meet with the boy's parents. When we got to his house, they denied us entry and informed us that their son was out of the country, so he could not be the one responsible for my pregnancy. This made my parents feel disgraced and disappointed. I ran away from the house and traveled to another community where I was not known by anyone. I gave birth to twins, and they were the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I knew I couldn't take care of them; I dropped them at the orphanage and ran away."
Everyone could not believe what they just heard. The woman brought out their birth certificate. Gika and Mike's parents looked at themselves and were confused. The chief asked them if they adopted their children, and they nodded in the affirmative. Everyone was shocked by this revelation. Mike looked at the woman and didn't say a word. Gika was on the floor sobbing. The chief said, "This marriage cannot hold because it is an abomination for siblings to get married in this community."
The woman laying on the floor begged Mike and Gika to forgive her. "I was a young girl who knew nothing when I abandoned you guys. Please forgive me." She brought out pictures of them when they were given birth to and showed them to Mike and Gika. They could not hold their tears.
Mike said to the woman, "You have succeeded in ruining my day, but you saved us from committing an abomination; it will be difficult for me to accept you as my mother. Only time can heal the wounds in my heart." Gika stood there and couldn't say a word. She could not believe what had just happened. Mike hugged her and said, "We will surely get over this."
