Mike sat there gazing into the sky. Woji walked by and said, "Hi Mike." Mike looked at her but did not say a word. Woji became confused and tapped Mike on his shoulder. Mike looked at Woji, and tears rolled off his eyes. Woji was shocked by this; Mike is not one to show his emotions. She dragged the chair by the window and sat on it. "Mike, what is the problem?" Woji. asked. Mike looked at her and buried his head in his arms.
Mike is a businessman who sells television sets, and he is one of the biggest suppliers of television sets in the Donka region. Mike is 40 years old and a graduate of accounting. He is regarded as an intelligent businessman who built a business empire from scratch. He is one who the young people see as a role model.
It's a Friday morning, and the sun is smiling. Mike walks into the supermarket to get groceries. Mike has not been to the supermarket for over a year; his assistant has always been the one getting Mike's groceries. A tall young man walks up to Mike. "Good morning, sir. I'm Dave by name. I love what you are doing, sir; you are a role model to young men who are in business and those aspiring to go into business," Dave said. Mike smiles, " I'm happy I have been able to influence young people around the Donka region."
Dave hands Mike a business card. Mike is captivated by what he sees on the card and tells Dave, "You are a real estate agent; this is so impressive. I am looking for a property to buy, and I think I will do business with you." Dave smiles; he knows he has hit a jackpot with Mike.
It's a chilly Saturday morning; the trees are dancing as the birds on them are singing. Mike drives into Heaven Estate, and Dave is waiting at the estate. "Good morning, Mr. Mike, over there are the properties," Dave says as he is pointing to two big houses just across the road. Mike nods his head. He is impressed by the beautiful architecture; the gardens are looking well kept, and Mike loves his garden, which is green and clean. Mike points at the two houses, "I will pay for them immediately." Dave smiles, "Sir, won't you take a look at the interior of the houses?" Mike rubs his palms. "Just send me your account details, and I will send you the money."
Mike drives to his new house with an interior decorator, and as they step into the house, Mike is shocked. He cannot believe his eyes; the house is dilapidated, and he begins to wonder how he made such a mistake. He turns to the interior decorator and asks, "How much do you think it will cost fixing this house?" The young man responds, "Sir, it will cost you a lot to fix this place up; let's say 5 million Naira." Mike is shocked by this: "I bought this house for 3 million Naira." Mike rushes out to check the next building and discovers it is even worse than the first one. The young interior decorator said, "Sir, things don't always look the way they seem." Mike bows his head and thinks of how he has just thrown so much money down the drain.
Mike picks up his phone and puts a call across to Dave. "Dave, why did you have to do me dirty? You could have told me that the state of the houses is so bad." Dave responds, "Sir, I asked you to check the interior of the house, but you were just so excited and paid for the houses". Mike ends the call and realizes he made a mistake.
"Woji I made a mistake. I paid so much for a house without even knowing if the house was worth the price. I was planning on reselling the house and making some profit. Now I have to cut my losses. I took money from the TV store, hoping when I make a profit from selling the house I will return it. Now look at me; I have to bear this loss, and it means I have to sell some of my assets." Mike looks at Woji, and he sees the disappointment in her eyes.
Woji gives Mike a big hug and says, "All will be well, my brother, and I know you will be back stronger and better." Mike cleans his eyes. "Thank you, my sister; it's time I get back to work; I have learned my lesson."
