Kaima was a pretty damsel who drew the attention of all the male folk in her clan. They all wanted to become her husband. At the age of sixteen she already had about 10 rich and famous suitors who were willing to do anything for her hand in marriage.
Kaima had a very proud father who happened to be the prime minister of their village. He was a man that loved material things, all he did and lived for was for money. But his wife was a totally different person. She believed in values and respect and despite her husband's massive wealth and fortune she showed kindness and compassion to her neighbors.
Unfortunately Kaima took after her father's character and love for money. They both agreed that she would have to get married to a very wealthy man, a man richer than her father. But no one in their village was that rich.
Kaima's mother tried her best to try and convince her daughter to get married to someone she truly loved and cared about, but her efforts proved in vain. This fact caused a lot of fights and arguments in the family as she would always stand her ground against Kaima's father.
Every morning Kaima's father would call his daughter out for prayers, they prayed to the gods to send a rich and famous suitor. One full moon, Kaima sat with her father in the obi of the compound, a small hut where they prayed to their gods.
They sat chatting and telling stories, when a very young and handsome man walked in. He introduced himself as Dera from the next village. He immediately made his intentions clear to take Kaima as his wife but Kaima and her father laughed mockingly at him. "You came bearing no gift, you are a nobody my son and a nobody can never marry my beautiful daughter". Kaima's father said.
Dera the handsome young man felt so insulted so he just left. But before he turned to leave, he looked into Kaima's eyes deeply and said " Be careful what you wish for". When he was gone Kaima and her father kept on laughing and insulting him.
But that same evening something strange happened. Still seated in the obi, a bright light shone on their faces from the road leading to their compound. It looked like a monster that rolled on the ground with two bright lights in front as eyes. And four round legs.
Kaima's father immediately took his daughter by her hands in an effort to run away, but before they could get away the car was already parked and the headlights turned off. Fear ran through the veins of Kaima and her father as they had no idea what a car was. They could only see a strange figure come out of it. It was at this moment that Kaima's mother came out of the house.
The strange man from the car, was just a normal human, he was a stranger from a strange land and he came in search of a wife. His name was Dafe and he was so handsome. No one had to tell Kaima and her father that he was a very wealthy and famous man. Any man who owned a car at that time was regarded as a demigod.
Within two market days Kaima and Dafe were both married. Their wedding ceremony was the biggest in history. Cows were killed and lots of gifts and money were shared among the guests.
For two weeks Kaima and her husband had to stay in her father's compound as the tradition demanded, but after that they both would have to go to her husband's town.
On the day they were to live, Kaima's mother felt down in her spirit, she felt something bad was about to happen. She told her husband about her feelings but he waved the idea away saying she was being too emotional.
All of Kaima's properties were packed and loaded into her husband's car and then they set out on their journey.
For hours they drove till they got to a strange place, it seemed like the beginning of a small desert, and there was no road. Kaima was confused so she asked Dafe if they had gotten to their destination. She didn't get a reply, just a weird look and evil smile on Dafe's face. He immediately got out something that looked like a charm and rolled it round his head three times. What happened next almost made Kaima take a shit on herself. He transformed into the strange young man Dera who came seeking her hand in marriage.
" I told you to be careful about what you wish for" he said as he laughed and strange men appeared from nowhere, they were all dressed in matching outfits and two of them forced Kaima out of the car.
Dafe got out of the car. He walked slowly towards his wife and cleaned the tears on her face. He said " Don't cry my love, I love you deeply and you know I won't hurt you but you are so cheap, even cheaper than the headlights of my car".
