With one corner of her eyes, Julie watched as Franca walked into Joe's office. She detested each time Franca came here with such a boastful aura around her, walking like a peacock. Today is not different at all. She just waved at Julie, meaning to say good morning. The thing is that Joe hasn't been to the office today but since she did not bother to stop at her table to ask if he has resumed or not, Julie did not bother to say a word either.

Julie, aren't you supposed to tell me that Joe isn't in the office?

Franca queried Julie. She just acted like she did not hear all she had said. A moment later, she replied to her.

I'm sorry, ma'am. I didn't want to be rude. I thought you knew that Mr. Joe wasn't around yet and that you may probably wait for him.

With that, Franca thought that Julie was being reasonable. She sank into a seat at the reception, crossed her legs, and began to scroll her Facebook page on her phone.

Another staff of the office, Nneka walked in hurriedly, she was late to work and was expecting their boss, Mr. Joe was going to query her. So, she came in looking perturbed.

Hey Julie. The traffic today was mad. Has our boss arrived? I hope not to get another scolding today.

Nneka teased Julie as the duo attempted to open their usual scuttlebutt against their boss. But Julie signed Nneka not to say anything because of the presence of Franca, who might just be listening to their conversation.

A few minutes later, Joe walked in with his briefcase in his left hand and his cell phone held up to his right ear region on his right hand. At once, Franca jumped up and advanced towards him.

Hey baby. Good morning. I have been waiting for you.

She was just all over him as the ladies (Nneka and Julie) were full of laughter but held it back, watching as the two love birds walked toward Joe's office.

Hehehhehe!!! See those toothpick legs of hers, flaunting all over another woman's husband.

Nneka accused Franca and Julie continued to laugh. She advanced towards the door knob to eavesdrop on their conversation. She envisaged that something important must have brought Franca to the office that very early morning.

Baby, I got good news for you.

Franca said to Joe as he hung his suit on the hanger and made to have his seat at his table.

Oh! Spill the bean, baby.

Joe retorted as Nneka continued to listen to their conversation and watch if there was any passerby thin e corridor.

I am pregnant. I used the PT this morning and it confirmed it.

Joe stood up in anger upon hearing her.

Preg….what?

His jugular became so visible around his neck like a black mamba ready to attack its prey.

For heaven's sake. You can't be pregnant. Don't you know I am married?

He started to walk from one end of his office to the other, showing how distasteful he was at the moment. Then, he walked towards the door. As the sound of the heels of his shoe approached the door, Nneka bolted back to her seat to avoid being caught in the act. Franca followed after him:

Joe, wait. Wait, please.

Franca chased after him as he walked as fast as possible towards the exit door.

Wonders shall never end!

Nneka began.

Julie, can you imagine what just happened? She is impregnated by our boss. I see trouble.

The two ladies started their scuttlebutt. It was the topic of the day. They were so engrossed in their gossip when after almost two hours, Joe entered the office and they never knew he had been listening to them for almost twenty minutes. The moment Julie looked up and saw him, she exclaimed

It wasn't me sir. She is the one who has been spreading all these rumors concerning you.

Julie said, pointing at Nneka. Joe just hissed and walked gently back to his office as his cell phone rang. It was his doctor friend at the hospital where he took Franca to check if she was truly pregnant that was calling.

O'l boy, just be thanking your stars. She isn't pregnant. I have told you to concentrate on your wife instead of chasing all these ladies, they will only end up giving you headaches.

Joe heaved a sigh of relief at this news. He promised himself not to get entangled with extramarital affair anymore.

Lol the title had me remembering an old show I used to watch growing up here in Nigeria.
Joe is quite a lucky man and maybe this escape will be enough to focus on his wife alone.

He escaped this one. Joe should be contented with his wife. No enduring gain in infidelity. He may continue to create avenue for scuttlebutt.

Your character interaction is very upbeat in this piece— the tone is very appropriate for the prompt. You set the mood and carry it forward to the resolution, which makes for interesting reading.

Thank you, @theinkwell. These weekly prompt is making everyone better by the week.

Lol
I don't know whether to say "close shave", Joe had better tighen his belt and respect the fact that he's married. Cheating on his wife with his employee is all shades of wrong.

Joe better be changed man and hang his boot with side chicks else, he would have himself to blame.

Exactly. I enjoyed your story.

So this was just a rumor about joe, but thats good he confirmed it by bringing her to doctor, and promised not to commit such mistakes again.

Sometimes, our priorities and circumstances change as we pursue our goals and careers. May we find fulfillment and joy in our journies, whether or not it includes marriage. Nice one.
