"His class is always boring, which is why he makes attendance compulsory because if he doesn't, students won't show up for his class." Dera, my coursemate Kept lamenting
"For real, I wish we could just miss this class and not go; sometimes it is better to be in my room and enjoy the comfort of my room than go for his class," I responded.
We all must have had an experience with that lecturer or teacher who really does not care about how lively the class is; all they care about is to cover their scheme of work. Even if you spend 3 hours in class with them, they don't care; they just stick to business and not deviate a little which makes the class tiring and exhausting.
"Anyways, let's just go and get the free marks for attendance, then look for a seat in the back and sit; we can be there and continue having fun, and he won't even notice us." Dera suggested
We set out for lectures without any intention of going to learn anything, just get our name on the attendance list and then engage each other with other conversations just so we don't get bored and start feeling sleepy in class.
"The lecturer is here; we should all try and be as cooperative as possible," our class representative pleaded.
"He should not take more than 2 hours," the whole class chorused.
The class started, and in order not to feel bored, we were busy at the back engaging in football discussions; we argued with very low tunes. Every football lover knows about the rivalry between Chelsea fans and Manchester United fans; it has been in existence for ages and can never be settled.
"You know the match between Manchester United and Manchester City was kind of rigged and in favour of Manchester United?" Dera asked
"Bro, don't say what you don't know, how and where was that game rigged. That game was free and fair, and the boys played with passion." A Manchester United fan from the back countered
"My brother, thank you very much for asking this question; all these Chelsea fans won't give us credit even when it is crystal clear. So how was it rigged?" I added
"Pep Guardiola did not play some of the players in the right position, and em em em," Dera stuttered.
"Hahaha, so you now know better than a whole Guardiola? Chelsea fans will never cease to amaze me, and how does not playing the players in the right position mean we rigged the match?" I asked Dera.
We were so engrossed in the conversation that we even forgot we were in class and didn't even remember there was a lecturer before us, but we kept our voices as low as possible, but the arguments kept getting more interesting and more tensed. I really don't enjoy arguing, but once Manchester United is involved, I don't mind arguing and shouting on top of my voice.
"You on red stand up; what's the last thing I said?" The lecturer said pointing at me.
I stood up like a fish out of water, confused and lost. The moment was all awkward, as I hate being the center of attention; in cases like this, you cannot escape it. The whole class turned to see the person the lecturer was talking to. A friend that was listening whispered to my hearing, and I immediately saved myself the stress.
"Sir, you were talking about food packaging and the role it plays in the food processing industry," I responded.
"If you were really listening, you should be able to tell me the basic functions of food packaging." The lecturer asked further just to be sure I was following
"Sir, the basic function food packaging plays is protection and preservation." I responded
"You can sit down," he said.
I sat down with my heart beating really fast, and with the help of a friend, I managed to extricate myself from an embarrassing moment.
