"Why does time fly by so quickly when I'm having a good time but by so slowly when I'm in class?" James sighed in private.
Although his body was in the classroom, his mind was somewhere else, and he wasn't the only one in this predicament—nearly every student in the class was in a similar circumstance. They were eager for the school day to end so they could go home. While the teacher was lecturing, they made subtle gestures to themselves and made an effort to control their excitement.
James was gently tapping his desk to let his impatience lay low, and soon the bell rang, and then he realized that the idiom “saved by the bell” wasn't a myth. Everyone hurriedly packed their bags as they flocked out of the classroom and went for their lockers. They chatted with one another.
“Hey guys, let go,” James voiced out loudly as soon as he had picked what he wanted from the locker.
They all began to move in a particular direction, a very unusual sight to behold. James was the class leader, but that doesn’t mean he had the power to direct every one of his classmates. The fact that it was a boys-only boarding high school made it more challenging, but today they all had a common goal, and they had been planning it for some days. All that was on everyone’s mind was revenge and this unified the whole class something that rarely occurs.
How could they forget this day last year when they were humiliated and tricked by their seniors? It was fresh in their minds, and almost everyone got a shocker that day as their seniors pulled one of the scariest Halloween tricks on them. Now it is their turn to scare the wit out of their seniors. To their knowledge, their seniors have been busy this year compared to last year as they are preparing for their national high school examination. The seniors spend longer hours in the class and laboratories preparing for the exams and there is no better time to retaliate than now.
They all arrived at their meeting location under the massive mango tree and began rehearsing their preparations.
"I was able to duplicate the senior's dorm key," James continued.
"Remember that only five of us would go into the senior's dorm and plant our scary RC snakes and other scary items, then we would wait for them to return in the evening and then switch off the light and start controlling the RC snake from a nearby bush."
"Who wants to follow me into the senior's dorm?" James inquired.
Almost everyone raised their hands, and the memory of the last Halloween terror was still vivid in their minds. James then picked Eric, his best buddy, and three random lads, Josh, Michael, and Edward. We'll go inside the seniors' dorm at 5 p.m. and wait for their return by 7 p.m.; until then, let's go and relax.
Soon it was five p.m., and the five squads began making their way into the senior’s dorm. With their duplicated key, they got access to the dorm. The dorm consists of a large room with beds on both sides. Each occupant's only source of seclusion is the curtain that they drape across their bed. There is also a cinema in the dorm where seniors may watch movies and TV shows, as well as a spacious restroom with many inlets. They were soon inside and began placing the RC snakes and other terrifying stuff about the hostel.
"Make sure we conceal the snakes under the bed so they won't notice them when they come inside," said James.
“What about the toy rodents?” Eric asked
“I think we should place them in the restrooms,” Edward suggested.
“Let go and place it there,” James agreed.
James and Edward began walking to the restroom, then they heard a squeaky sound from one of the beds at the far end.
“Did you hear that?" James and Edward asked their other colleagues
"Yes, we do; what can that be?” Eric asked
“I’m sure nobody can be in the dorm by this time,” James said.
“Let go and check,” Josh said as he led the way in the direction of the bed.
They were almost close to where the squeaky sound came from, and then they had some rattling sounds on one of the main doors, and it was the door they had come through.
Maybe someone is trying to get inside the dorm; quick, let' hide under this bed."James quipped
Ok, soon they all hid under the bed, waiting for the door to open, but it didn’t. They were taken aback, though, when "Monster Mash" began to play over a dorm speaker and it appeared as though the music was coming from the ceiling.
Where is the sound coming from? James asked alarmingly.
They had all forgotten about the squeaky sound, and they were so worried about the speaker playing that they rushed for the dorm door to get out, but to their surprise, it seemed the door had been locked out with another lock or padlock.
Whispering to his friends, "No, we are locked inside," Michael
sobbed. "This Halloween retaliation expedition seems like a horrible idea to me,”
“Don’t panic,” James tried to reassure Michael, even though he was also visibly scared.
“What should we do?” Eric asked.
Soon after Eric asked his question, the squeaky sound became louder, and soon a loud curtain holder fell. That squeaky sound quickly intensified, and a loud curtain holder dropped shortly after Eric posed his query.
"No, it seems the seniors have planned our arrival and set this up." Josh firmly remarked, "We shouldn't be afraid; there are no ghosts or spirits."
With a seemingly restored sense of confidence, James said, "Yes, that's true."
Suddenly the monster mash music stopped playing, and everything seemed normal. Their fear has also dissipated.
"I think we should just abandon this mission," Michael said.
"Ok, we won't continue; the question we should be asking is how do we get out? It is a big offense to be sneaking into the senior's dorm," James remarked.
All the other boys nodded to affirm James's statement. As they began thinking of ways to get out of the dorm, Just a few seconds after the James statement An eerie sound filled the room, and immediately all the dorm lights went off. Even though it wasn't night yet, the dorm was dark because the dorm windows were covered by heavy curtains.
"Oh my gosh!" "What is happening?" asked Michael.
Then the Monster Mash music started blasting out of the speakers.
"Look at that!" Eric let out a cry, and the other lads noticed that something pale and shining was approaching them.
Michael wailed, "Maybe it's a ghost; let's start praying."
Before long, the thing came into full view for everyone to see—it was a skeleton.
"Gosh, a walking skeleton!" Edward let out a cry. Michael knew the door wouldn't open, but he instinctively grabbed it and pulled.
However, to the amazement of the boys, the door opened.. All of them bolted from the senior's dorm, running as far as their legs would allow. Concurrently, a group of seniors conversing and laughing heartily in a corner of the dorm compound.
"Those little children wanted to give us a Halloween prank, but they ended up being pranked."
