These words Lawrences mother, madam Patricia always told Lawrence.
Lawrence just finished his secondary education and is studying medicine and surgery in one of the top universities in London,he has maintained a clean academic record since his secondary school and plans to carry on the struggle throughout his tertiary education and stay at the top.
Lawrence has always loved the company of his peers that most times he gets misled by peer pressure, hoping he would overcome that issue now he has left his peers instead it only gets worse in the university.
Lawrence a very social person in no time made lots of friends in his field of study, of which majority of them where his senior colleagues.
"Hey little friend let's go have some fun, bills on us"
Lawrences senior colleagues would always offer to take him out to video games and interesting meetings,the senior colleagues took great interest in Lawrence due to how smart he was. Lawrence always gave in to their outings,but pays little attention to the fact that they are senior colleagues, they know the university system and they have less academic work to do unlike him that is a new student trying to find his roots and has a lot to cover academically.
Whenever madam Patricia lawrences mother, calls to find out about his well being and his studies, his conscience blames him so bad because he knows he isn't living up to expectations, Lawrence is aware he has a problem and wants to come out of it so he decides to speak to Greg one of his senior colleagues that he was close to;
"Hey Greg" Lawrence initiated,
"What's up little man?" Greg answered,
"Don't you think it's a little bit to forward that I'm spending much time with you guys rather than my academics? I mean don't get me wrong I enjoy every outing we go out on but I think I need to refocus to get good grades" Lawrence continued.
" I've heard all you've said but let me leave you to ponder over these few words;you don't have to miss out on all the fun for academic work, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy never forget that, you are a smart guy and you can cope with academics quite well, don't make us miss your presence so much due to silly academics" Greg countered.
" They're right" Lawrence thought to himself.
The exams approached and Lawrence was still not focused, he kept cruising with his friends so much that before he could realise that he was chasing a blind ambition, it was already too late. With just a week to the exams, Lawrence took part in the examination of which he failed and carried over almost all his courses to the next semester, Lawrence couldn't face his mother because she was so disappointed in his academic performance.
Lawrence regretted his actions and decided to take his studies seriously the next semester, he completely cut off his friends for his ambitions.
