BED TIME STORY: THE WITCH AND THE TURNADO
"Once Upon a time -"
"Oh, please not another scary story, Greg." Mandy warned, "I am still having nightmares from the previous ones."
Greg drowned the hissing of the logs in the fireplace with his obnoxious laughter. "Relax, Mandy. This one is not even that scary." he smirked deceitfully. "At least not to me."
"Promise?" Mandy asked with eyes as round as a vulnerable dear.
"uhm... no need to hold your breath, Mandy." He rolled his eyes, his patient demeanor wearing out. "May I continue now?"
"Not without me!" Kinsley slammed the door behind him for a dramatic effect, cutting off the wailing of the raging snowstorm before striding his colossal knee-length boots to the fireplace where the two sat, leaving trails of dirty snow behind as he did.
He recklessly hung his enormous furry coat on the coat hook at the right of the fireplace before slumping his meaty figure on the sofa which groaned in protest. "Where is Austin?"
"He went to get coffee." Mandy answered quickly as if expecting the question.
"Now, may I go ahead with my story?" Greg asked, impatient evident in his voice.
"Lets wait for Austin." Mandy countered, receiving a glare in return from Greg.
"Four cups of hot coffee coming right up!" Austin announced as he made his way from the kitchen skillfully carrying the tray with professionalism. "One for you, one for you, one for you and one for me." He quickly sat down next to Mandy afterwards as all attention returned to Greg who smiled contently.
"Once upon a time -"
"Austin, I hope my coffee has no sugar in it." Kinsley asked as he fanned the cup in an aimless attempt to make the steam move the other direction.
"Made sure it is as bare-black and strong as you love it."
"And I hope you added-"
"- Five cubes of sugar and two table spoon of milk." Austin finished for Mandy with a triumphant smirk. "Made sure."
"GUYS!" Greg hollered, clearly offended. "Do you mind?"
"Sorry, please continue." Austin apologized, Mandy not showing any form of remorse for the distraction.
Greg cleared his throat as he side-glared at Kinsley who seems to be enjoying his discomfort before continuing.
"Once upon a time, in the country of Oklahoma -"
"- Oklahoma is a state in the South Central region of the United Sta-" Kinsley countered with an eye roll.
"- Shut up, smart mouth. in the land of Okla-"
"- State."
"QUIET!" Greg warned, eyes bloodshot. Kinsley smirked with an eye roll. Mandy and Austin snickered at their familiar banter as Austin proceeded to fill the dying flames with logs. "In the state of Oklahoma, there lived a great haggard witch who lived in a very crocked hut right in the heart of the land - state."
"Oh dear." Mandy curled into a ball as she scooted closet to Austin.
"No one dare question her authority, nor gossip about the witch. it is said that she will eventually find out and curse the victim, some she curse to be dumb for the rest of their lives, some she cursed to be both deaf and dumb while other she cursed to be invisible to plane sight for the rest of their life; a punishment worse than death. every one, I say everyone, even the king cower under the rulership of this great witch.
"One creepy night, the witch sent words to the king through an owl which carry with it a black envelop. emphasis on words.
When the owl arrived into the palace, it quickly dropped the black envelop before the king. just as quick, the envelop soared in mid-air and began to speak. its voice deep and agonizing as it announced to the whole palace feast the coming of the annual blood moon sacrifice. this time it mentioned the 16 years old princess as one of the 21 goddess touched sacrificial maidens. The king couldn't be any sadder for the rest of the night-"
"Ouch!" Mandy screamed.
"What is it Mandy?" Austin asked as all eyes now focus on the youngest among them.
"I spill hot coffee on my lap. it burns"
"Sorry, I will get you something cool from the freezer." Austin urgently skimmed his way to the kitchen.
Greg impatiently tapped his fingers rhythmically on the sofa where he sat opposite to Kinsley as they waited for Austin who waisted no time to rush back to the sitting room with an ice pack.
"May I continue now?" Greg asked with a raise of his right eyebrow as Austin cautiously soothed Mandy's right lap with the ice pack.
"Go ahead, dreamer. but please make it short." Kinsley continued. " unlike your lazy bones, I still have things to do early tomorrow mornin-."
"- Due to the love the king have for his daughter, he visited the great witch the next day to petition for the life of his dear princess. But his request fell on deaf ears. rather than feeling sympathy, the witch plagued the king with an unknown disease. the king was so sad and hopeless.
"Alas, the day of the blood moon sacrifice arrived. and the 21 goddess touched has to present themselves to the witch. But to the witch's displeasure, the princess was not among them.
"Out of rage, the witch appeared before the king on his sick bed to demand for the princess, But the king denied knowing anything about the princess disappearance. Just then, an owl flew in to the witch's shoulder and announced seeing the princess outside the west gate. As it appears, she is eloping with a stranger. The witch wasn't pleased to hear this. She swore death to the palace and the stranger who dare gamble with her authority.
"After an unceremonious incantations The great witch morphed into a massive tornedo thunderstorm. Moving to the west gate and destroying everything in her path, Houses, properties and livestock as she did."
