Recientemente comenzamos el año organizando la casa de mis padres y sacando un montón de cosas que estaban ocupando espacio innecesario ahí, encontramos un montón de cosas útiles y otras no tanto, mucho se botó a la basura y nos encontramos con algunas cosas útiles.

We recently started the year organizing my parents' house and taking out a lot of things that were taking up unnecessary space there, we found a lot of useful things and others not so much, a lot was thrown away and we found some useful things.

Entre las cosas que encontramos y conservamos fue la colección de billetes venezolanos que mi papá ha estado guardado desde hace muchos años, incluso desde antes de que yo naciera. Le quité el polvo y comencé a recordar cada vez que mi padre recibía billetes nuevos siempre los guardaba para hacer crecer su colección; esa misma colección hoy quiero presentárselas.

Among the things we found and kept was the collection of Venezuelan banknotes that my dad has been keeping for many years, even before I was born. I dusted it off and started to remember every time my father received new bills he always kept them to make his collection grow; that same collection I want to present to you today.

Para nadie es un secreto que los billetes venezolanos encierran bastante historia, han pasado a ser uno de los elementos en nuestra cultura y nuestra economía que más han cambiado desde hace unos años para acá. Con este cambio que se les ha realizado a los billetes venezolanos, me pareció interesante mostrarles algunos de los billetes que mi padre tiene en su colección.

It is no secret that Venezuelan banknotes have a lot of history, they have become one of the elements in our culture and our economy that have changed the most since a few years ago. With this change that has been made to the Venezuelan banknotes, I thought it would be interesting to show you some of the banknotes that my father has in his collection.

Muchos de estos billetes personalmente nunca los utilicé, porque son de años previos a mi nacimiento, pero él y mi madre, si recuerdan todo lo referente a ellos; su valor para el año en el que salieron, lo que podían comprar con ellos y que significaba para un hogar venezolano de aquellos años, tener cierta cantidad de esos billetes.

Many of these bills I personally never used, because they were from years before I was born, but he and my mother remember everything about them; their value for the year they came out, what they could buy with them and what it meant for a Venezuelan household in those years to have a certain amount of those bills.

Los billetes que mi padre colecciona siempre deben estar en muy buenas condiciones, casi recién salidos del banco, le gusta guardar algunos cuantos de cada uno y siempre trata de conseguir los primeros que salen en circulación para guardarlos y tenerlos como parte de su colección personal.

The bills my father collects must always be in very good condition, almost fresh from the bank, he likes to keep a few of each and always tries to get the first ones that come out in circulation to keep and have as part of his personal collection.

Los años de los billetes varían y no tiene todos los billetes de un mismo cono monetario, ya que comenzó a coleccionar los billetes con solo unos pocos que estaban en buen estado hace más de 30 años y aún continua guardando algunos billetes nuevos cada vez que, lamentablemente, hay un cambio en ellos.

El billete más viejo que tiene mi padre en su colección data del 5 de Octubre de 1989, es el billete de 1 Bolívar, seguido por el billete de 2 Bolívares; son bastante pequeños en comparación a los billetes que le siguen en la colección, parecen billetes falsos o del juego Monopolio, pero realmente así es su tamaño. En contraste a esos billetes, el billete más reciente es del año 2018.

The oldest bill my father has in his collection dates from October 5, 1989, it is the 1 Bolivar bill, followed by the 2 Bolivar bill; they are quite small compared to the bills that follow them in the collection, they look like counterfeit bills or from the Monopolio game, but that is really their size. In contrast to these banknotes, the most recent banknote is from 2018.

Algunas de los billetes de la colección de mi papá se encuentran solos o incompletos, a veces fue porque no los consiguió en el estado en el que quería conseguirlos o porque los gastó y no lo pudo reponer, pero la mayoría de los billetes está con su cono monetario completo.

Some of the bills in my dad's collection are found alone or incomplete, sometimes it was because he didn't get them in the condition he wanted to get them in or because he spent them and couldn't replace them, but most of the bills are with their complete monetary cone.

A través de los billetes se puede conocer una parte interesante de la historia de Venezuela y de cualquier país del mundo, se puede saber mucho sobre un país con tan solo conocer la historia detrás de sus billetes y monedas (las cuales también tiene mi papá y forman parte de su colección).

Through banknotes you can learn an interesting part of the history of Venezuela and any country in the world, you can know a lot about a country just by knowing the history behind its banknotes and coins (which my dad also has and are part of his collection).

Si bien es cierto que existe una connotativa con respecto a los billetes en Venezuela, son el reflejo del problema económico que enfrenta aún el país, pero también es una oportunidad para saber y dar a conocer la historia que hay detrás de esos billetes, la historia de una población entera, de un país completo.

While it is true that there is a connotation with respect to banknotes in Venezuela, they are a reflection of the economic problem that the country still faces, but it is also an opportunity to know and make known the history behind those banknotes, the history of an entire population, of an entire country.
