Above is a link to a youtube video where I talk in a bit more depth about Death Atlanteans and highlight 3 matches with uncut footage against mythic difficulty opponent's (aside from replacing the copyrighted musical jams playing at the time with GU ambiance in OpenShot). This video may be a tad touched up later aswell, but I hope you folks enjoy regardless.
Key Atlanteans and Lines: Pulling out all the Atlants
This deck utilizes some specialty Atlanteans that combine to create lines around control or the classic over the line combo. You essentially try to plant some large Atlanteans to the board via Aetherrust and additionally summon and generate more creatures with spirit storm to populate your board to set up a lethal Over the Line. Utilizing this and Necronomics one can pull of a deadly one turn burst of damage and/or prepare for it. Incredibly satisfying to maneuver.
Actual Viability: High, BUT...
This deck is viable, BUT it will be genuinely a mythic contender when a few more Atlanteans enter the playing field. Perhaps some more void recursion or afterlife from Atlanteans would make this deck shine more brilliantly. Currently the deck is not the easiest to pilot and requires current meta knowledge and constant adjustments to be relevant. Not an easy build, but a superbly satisfying one. Currently it wins at a good percentage but isn't consistent enough to contend in mythic with our current ranking system.
Fun, Powerful, and Replayable: The Perfect Combo?
While I jest in calling it "the perfect combo", as it is far from the most powerful combo in GU (looking at you schoolteachers), this deck is strong and immensely enjoyable to play. The random generation from aether chest allows for a fun game almost everytime, but the downside being RNG can be against you at times in the same manner. This deck NEVER has a game that doesn't feel fun to play and play against, the downside being RNG.
Thoughts on Video Process: Not Perfect, but a start
This video features three matches I thought were fun where death Atlanteans takes the win (which it does a majority of the time against control opponents), but the editing isn't the best as it's less of a short form video and more of a battle highlight plus Atlantean talk. Less editing is necessary for this to be effective. In shorter videos to come there will be more memery, but this one sets the stage for the sort of long form Atlantean content to expect. There will be a lot more Atlanteans and other fun decks explored live and then cut and processed for youtube later. I hope you folks enjoy, despite it not being the best I still put a lot of time into it to expand my GU YouTube repertoire.
The Future: The Realm of Speculation
If I were to speculate about the future of the Atlantean tribe for the domain of death, I would surmise that some afterlife Atlantean cards for the tribe are likely (various neutral ones already exist). Or other tribal cards that benefit from the death of allied Atlanteans or can synergize with them being in the void. Perhaps an Atlantean that allows you to draw another Atlantean or summon one from the void is in the future? Only time will tell. In whichever case the tribe as a whole is in desperate need of additional numbers. Currently my favorite build for this deck is more combo oriented around over the line and bitter endings along with devouring golem (yes, that's right). And I will cover this new build in another shorter video coming soon! it in fact even goes toe to toe with THE rockdrake BE combo and steals the show. There will be more videos iterating this deck connotation as we journey to get it it's own applicable archetype on GU Decks.
