Social media Algorithms Just Don't Care

It's not easy to get attention on social media these days, especially the big platforms with billions of users. I've just come to terms with this bitter reality, social media is great for getting people to see your content but not for making good money.

Yes you're going to see MrBeast and all these Rich YouTubers flaunt their wealth and some people get motivated but the truth is that most people fail miserably on these platforms or spend years and years posting and not getting pushed by the algorithms.

Platforms like Facebook , Instagram and X, they control who sees your posts and they decide how much you get paid, usually keeping most of the money themselves. There's the downside of a centralized platform owned by individuals that want to maximize profits at all cost.

Nowadays, even with a large following, the content creators are earning very little because these platforms have been designed to make money through ads, not designed to pay creators. You the creator is not priority, they're looking to keep users on their platform to keep watching ads so whichever everr video will keep it going is what they'll promote. But that means the algorithm doesn't really care too much about your efforts or quality of your content.

One person suggested this ideas and I don't know how effective it'll be but it sounds like a good idea. The person suggested that instead of relying on social media to earn money, content creators should move their followers to platforms they own, like email lists, paid newsletters or even have slme online courses.

I think the email option is a perfect way for the creators to reach their audience directly without worrying about changing algorithms just to keep their videos being seen by people. It's no easy thing I tell you. Someone can start a YouTube channel and it goes well for like 3 months and after that, they suddenly start to experience little to no views from their videos. The same quality of videos but no attention anymore. I thought at that point, YouTube algorithm attention has shifted to something else that generates more ads revenue for them. It can be very discouraging.

I think building an audience on platforms owned by the creators give them more control over their content, earnings and business. If they can't do that, the best alternative is a Web 3 social platform like Hive.
