My Opinion on Jennifer Lopez's "This Is Me...Now: A Love Story" Movie

Hello everyone, Jennifer Lopez’s latest project, “This Is Me…Now: A Love Story,” is something that I recently had a look at and that I would like to talk about.

Basically it is a music video movie with a plot.

So, J.Lo as many of us call her, has been in the public eye for ages. She is this glamorous Hollywood star but she remains rooted to being a girl from Bronx.

This project appears to be Jen’s way of displaying both sides of herself.

Then there’s the opening myth about love turning into flower and hummingbird which is kind of cool I guess. After that we are taken through Jennifer’s own personal experience with love.

She mentions how she has always been a romantic person and always looking for true love.

There are these scenes in the movie where she is in some sort of factory-like place, just trying to keep her heart on fire. It’s all very metaphoric, like she’s trying to say something deeper about love and life.

Honestly though, sometimes it feels like she’s trying way too much to be deep.

In this movie she goes through different stages of love from escaping a bad relationship to finding love within herself. It’s all very showy and dramatic in a typical Jennifer Lopez performance.

But I couldn’t help thinking; is she being real with us? Or is it an act?

She tries at certain moments to be truthful, such as when she speaks about her struggles with love and relationships. Then however, back comes the larger-than-life superstar, and it is quite difficult to find out where Jennifer ends and the persona begins.

Her portrayal of her relations with other stars, for example, her present husband Ben Affleck, particularly struck me.

They have been in this on-again off-again thing for years; it is fascinating to watch how she has used it in the film. And yet, at some level, such a move feels like she makes use of their relationship as a means to an end: marketing her songs.

Another aspect is where she mentions getting married in Las Vegas which apparently is based on her real life wedding to Affleck. It’s like she wants to make her private life a worldwide spectacle. But I wonder why should that be so?

All in all, “This Is Me...Now: A Love Story” is a mixed bag for me. On one hand, I adore watching Jennifer Lopez being open and vulnerable about her life.

However, on the other hand, I feel like she is forcing herself to be profound and meaningful.

I think that’s what I’m saying; however, I appreciate, though she could only just be her genuine self than trying to fit into what she believes we want from her.

Ultimately though, I would rather have the real Jennifer Lopez as opposed to the superstar Jennifer Lopez. But that’s just me!
