Elm bark has been used by humans since time immemorial. This tree, so common in parks and gardens but one of the fundamental species of the gallery forest, has served humanity with all its properties. Its wood has been used to make furniture and boats. Entire generations have been warmed with its firewood and its leaves have been used to feed farm animals such as pigs, which love to browse.
But for medicinal use we have used its bark, which must be removed carefully so as not to harm the tree and which we can collect many times. This bark has antibacterial properties and has also been used for sore throats.
Another use that has been given to this bark is as a vitamin supplement to the diet and as an appetite stimulant.
