We Are Alive! June 7th, 2022 Chamomile Flowers

Today has been a busy day. I got an early start to the day to drive my sister to the airport and was very tired after I got home. I restarted my day with some projects, including getting outside to harvest a few things from the volunteer crop.

This year we are not gardening, but only picking from what comes up from the ground voluntarily.

We got a nice pile of chamomile flowers that we'll dehydrate for tea. There were lots of tiny aphids mixed in with the flowers, so we're laying them outside in a tray for a while so the bugs will crawl away.

My wife and I enjoy drinking chamomile tea at night. The store bought always seems to have other ingredients like mint, so we prefer our home-grown loose tea from our garden.

It was a pretty big collection of flowers for a volunteer plant. And there's more to come!

Do you enjoy drinking chamomile tea?

Aww this is beautiful! Such a lovely flower picker as well, I believe a chamomile spray for the hair also brightens up blond locks! Have a beautiful week!

Chamomile is such a useful plant, the flowers soaked in water become bright yellow.

I used to agree until I found the combination with anise, still I never made my own I think I know some patches around here...but those are also where the dogs...... !CTP

The only additional "herb" we like with chamomile is fennel, but I bet anise would be good too.

I do like chamomile tea and I have some plants that will be coming up soon so I am very interested in how you de-bug them and dry them.

Let me knwo if you share!

how you de-bug them and dry them.

Getting the bugs off was pretty easy, we left it outside on the cookie sheet, by the next day they were clean. We rinse them with water and towel dry them before putting them in the dehydrator.

Months back, I wrote about the dehydrator. If we do another big dehydration project, I'll make another post about it.

This totally makes me feel like I NEED a dehydrator.

I enjoy chamomille tea sometimes but I did not know that it grows in the wild. I will need to locate or plant some. I assume they are perennials.
Nice post, Benjamin. Good information.

What a great project! I love this tea aswell but just buy it. It is also helpful for my irritated or tired eyes sometime.

yes! When I was a kid my mom used to wash my eyes out with chamomile tea after we came home from the pool.

It always put me right to sleep, which she proably knew it would!

Hey thats cool! lol

Interesting, I didn't know it could be used as an eye wash. Yes chamomile make me sleepy too.

Oh yes, its medicine for sore eyes.

I think chamomile tea is overlooked in many ways, it really does have a lot of health benefits.

you that is a very nice harvest you have there. I also like to drink chamomile tea when I have some. Does it taste much different from a store-bought one and the fresh one?

We were happy with the harvest, there's more to come! They do shrink when you dehydrate them, so several harvests can fit in a mason jar.

Does it taste much different from a store-bought one and the fresh one?

We think so, it's a richer flavor and the loose flowers makes the water a beautiful golden color. Likely better health benefits as well!

Do you put the flowers in there and let them go to the bottom or do you put them in bags?

We usually just put them in loose and run it through a strainer.
