“Spread lies over and over again to the public. "A lie that is repeated will be accepted as truth," said Jozef Goebbels (source: https://news.detik.com/kolom/d-4250139/media-social-dan-narasi-kebesaran). This statement has now become a reality, especially driven by the increasing development of social media with various platforms. Social media users will receive chain messages from fellow users of the same social media platform and use them as references. If this is the case then the lie can turn into the truth, and this is very dangerous. That is the current reality if people, especially social media users, are not good at distinguishing between facts and hoaxes. Because it is very difficult to differentiate between facts and hoaxes when information is received via social media.
The most fatal consequence of the spread of fake news or hoaxes is that there are fewer and fewer people who are able to think critically and even the critical nature begins to disappear. Critics no longer use common sense to examine information because they put forward an opinion that has not been researched or studied beforehand.
Therefore, in this post I invite all of us not to immediately believe the information we receive from various social media platforms. The ITE (Electronic Information Technology) Law is ready to wait if we are one of those who spread fake news or hoaxes. It is enough for us to be the recipient of the final message if we receive false information and there is no need to pass it on to other people.
