Hi fellow Hiveians,
Today I wanted to talk about how I've been burning the energy candle at both ends lately!
Both Ends Burning
We all tend to sacrifice some sleep, don't we?
I've been in a bad habit lately of really pushing off my sleep, and it's getting to be a little problematic! Burning the candle at both ends isn't the best thing, but at the same time, there are a lot of factors going on that make it so that we feel that we have to.
I always wake up and say to myself "I'm going to go to bed earlier tonight, I feel fucking tired right now because I went to bed too late" and when the night time comes around, that simply doesn't happen 99% of the time lol. It's brutal, but at the same time, I have a lot of things that I need to do in a day especially after the little man goes to sleep.
Engagement on Hive is one of them, but I think that one can be sacrificed a little bit, the challenge is that this tends to be what I do while I wait for the little man to fall asleep. Given that my laptop is in relative close proximity to him just a dozen or so feet away, I have to make sure that he's pretty well asleep before I can really do anything that I want on my laptop. Strike 1.
By the time I get to my laptop, I am trying to figure out what I need to post from the day or the last few days and that takes a few minutes to line up some pictures, get sorted out. This isn't always a bad thing because it helps me collect my thoughts. Sometimes this does tend to take longer than I would like, and eats into that precious sleep time.. Strike 2.
When I write, which isn't every single day but most days, I try to get 2 posts written so that I can cover the day I am writing it, since that "consumes" one post, and the next day. This is so that I'm always 2 or 3 days ahead in terms of content and I can feel a little less pressure on myself to get something up ASAP before I fall asleep. This works out pretty well because on some situations, I end up getting a week or two ahead but then that usually doesn't last. Writing two posts or more though, I end up really going into the later hours of the night. Strike 3.
By the time I take my vitamins for the night and actually get to bed, it's often around 10:45 or 11 and I know that may sound pretty early to some, I am conditioned to need to get 8 hours of sleep to operate my best. With the last few weeks the little man has been getting up at 6am and it's always my duty in the house to get up with him, so that means it eats into that sleep time for me.
These are all not horrible things, but I do need to figure out how to better manage some of this stuff so that I can get more sleep. I did manage to get to bed one night recently at 930 because I was just so exhausted I couldn't do any of it lol so I slept. The funny part about getting the actual good amount of sleep is that I then slept like shit hahaha go figure.
There are opportunity costs associated with both of these things. Staying up late at night, I am trading the opportunity to get more sleep to spend some time on Hive, engaging and trying to do my best to take advantage of the best market conditions to earn some extra Hive in preparation for the future. Then I am waking up early with the little man, but I am sacrificing my sleep so that I get to spend more time with him, and get the morning off on the right foot with him so that's not something I would trade.
So I will continue to plug away, trying to get more time to sleep and maybe lowering some of the other time in the evening so that I can get to bed at a better time. I am actually currently 30 minutes ahead of schedule here, so I am going to see if I can take advantage of a 30-minute addition to my sleep, but no promises it will work..
What about you, do you tend to stay up later in the evening even though you know you should sleep more, because you don't want to miss some opportunities? Let me know in the comments!
