Summer Wind

Hi fellow Hiveians,

Today I wanted to lament about how the summer is winding down, which is a bittersweet moment.

Summer Wind

Wind or wind? Isn't English a fun language? :D same word, 2 different pronunciations. Did you think of it as "wind" aka a blowing breeze, or "wind" as in winding a clock? Also, this happens to be a wonderful Frank Sinatra song, so it's a win on multiple levels!

As we are winding down summer, approaching autumn, we can already see the changes in the environment. Just this morning as I'm writing this, I was walking around outside a little bit and can see multiple trees and things that are changing color sadly. While I definitely love the autumn season, as it brings so many wonderful elements to it such as cool, crisp weather and comfortable sleeping nights, it also brings with it the end of refreshing walks in shorts and things of that nature.

I know that we have considered moving somewhere that has summer all year such as Florida, Texas or some other states in those ideas but I think I would honestly miss the autumn weather that we experience where we are living now. It's such a wonderful change, to see the tips of the trees slowly start to change color. Losing their wonderful shades of green, and exchanging them for the yellows, oranges and reds that accompany the autumn time of year.

Living in an area that has summer all year round might be a little bit boring in a way, but that's just my opinion from having grown up and lived where we had 4 seasons every year. Some years are warmer than others, some are colder, and some are in-between. I guess it's a little pretentious of me to want to have the best of both worlds, where we could spend time in a place for autumn and then go somewhere for the deep winter, so that my wife can escape the bitter cold and snow.

There are a lot of reasons that we are just floating the idea around, but not really acting on it. One of the most important ones is that we tried acting on it a few times now, but had various events arise that changed our plans, drastically as well as moderately. For example, we found a town we LOVED, it was beautiful, quaint and affordable. A hurricane then came in and wiped it off the fucking map hahaha so that ruined that plan. We were ready to put a deposit down on a place! Then the hurricane blew it up. We dodged a bullet for sure..

So while it may be fun to think about sometimes, practically and realistically, we are likely going to stay where we are and get to sit back and enjoy this autumn and many more autumns in the near future where we are living roughly, which may change a few dozen or hundred miles or so, but still in the roughly same region. I think I'm okay with that, because I enjoy the variability of the seasons coming for a while, then leaving so that we can appreciate them more than we would if we didn't have it.

What about you, do you have variable seasons? Do you look forward to them changing? Let me know in the comments!

I so want to stay in a place with the 4 seasons.
Nigeria has just 2. The rainy and the dry season.
And when the rain falls... The rain FALLS 😂😂😂😂

That hurricane bit is sad but lucky...

It's a wonderful thing to experience seasons. Some people hate it but I think it's a special time!

It is challenging when the only seasons are dry or wet but hot regardless. There are certainly things to look forward to for that but I’m not familiar with the climate to say what.

Since we moved here our intent has been to move a little further south to escape harsher winters. But really, for years we haven't had a harsh winter, not even a huge snow snow storm. So we're good right now, maybe eventually we'll go as far south as DE but that's it. Weather there and here is great to sit by the fireplace in winter. Further south that'd probably be a no.

Haha Delaware is one of the pass through states for us. I don’t know if that one or Maryland had some pretty decent rolling hills and farm areas but the winters have indeed been fairly mild. I’m always expecting to get slammed with something but it hasn’t happened yet. We shall see!

We aren’t sure where we move yet, we could go more north or we could go south. The options aren’t amazing right now so we are kind of staying put.

Exactly, for us as well, On our way to the Outer Banks we always 'pass through'. NC might be a touch too hot already but for now we're going to stay right here. Further north is not an option for us.

We just flew back into a hot spell after having a really nice weekend with temps in the 60's and 70's. I'll be happy when this late summer heat is finally gone and we can settle back into the nights around 40 degrees.

Yeah the nights in the cooler temps are really nice! Makes for a nice sleep when you are cozy in bed under a blanket.

For sure! The other day when we woke up it was something like 65 in the house. My wife was freezing!

Giant Bugs, Heat and Humidity...

I will take that for 6 months then it is paradise for 6. With very little of the previously mentioned.

Yeah it depends what you like and are used to. I certainly look forward to the cooler temps and feel of autumn!
