I quite like absinthe but I find the process of melting sugar cubes with tiny droplets of ice water very tedious. It is like watching snow melt at +0.1 degrees celsius. At the end of the day I want something easy and quick inside me. So I optimized the abinsthe-procedure.
The most manly thing would be the chew on a sugar beet while chugging down a bottle of absinthe but I am no Chuck Norris. The next manly thing would be to go for speed which is to fix everything in a shot glass. Unfortunately, mixing sugar with absinthe is a hard task without dilution. So you have to mix the sugar beforehand with hot water, i.e. simple syrrup. The ratio simple syrrup to absinthe is up to you but I like 50-50 and remember to give it a quick stirr.
Drinking absinthe at room temperature is a hard task. It is like chewing star-anise soaked in vodka. So it is recommended to but everything in the freezer: bottle of absinthe, simple syrrup and shot glass. And there you have it. A very manly way of drinking absinthe.
