This is my first entry for Inktober 2023! 🥳
Doing art for a straight month will kill me! 😆So maybe I will at least have one entry or two per week.
For this art, I tried to use pencil and textured brushes. I used to draw on physical paper way back then and it seems I forgot how to do it. 😅 Also, my drawing stuff is kept away in a box, and too lazy to sort them out.
See the list of prompts here.
Here are the brushes I used similar to traditional pens. Charcoal, pastel, and chalk.
The prompt is "map" and so, I thought of Nami of One Piece. She is the navigator and she draws maps really well. Her dream is to draw the whole map of the world.
I looked for an easy to trace Nami pose, to begin with the art. My goal here is to experience and practice my pencil brush application and learn from doing so. The first challenge was, "Where to begin shading?" 😆 So I looked for other references for pencil or ink art. I tried imagining the shadows and pointing out the light source. For the eyes, tattoo, and clothing design, I used a chalk brush.
I used charcoal for the lines on the clothing and on the hands. I applied denser lines on the lower part of the clothing as well as on the waist. For the hair, I searched for a manga material on my inventory. I chose the little dots (IDK what to call them).
To fill the background, I thought of putting the cardinal points and ropes.
Making this art was hard at first because I could not figure it out where to put the lines. Also, I am not used to doing black and white. Almost all the time, I use color to convey depth. Since this only consists of two main shades, it is hard for me to imagine. 😅 I salute people who are doing traditional art because honestly, sometimes I feel like cheating when I use ctrl + Z 😆. If ever I do this art in trad, it may take me 2 days plus half a day of frustration. haha!
Thanks for reading~ 💖
That is it for this art blog. I will see you at the next one!
