New month, new challenge! I thank @artpark and the fam for making this happen, yay! 🥳 Thank you for squeezing out more juice out of our brains, haha! For week one, the challenge is to redraw a drawing from last year. My art style last year was a whack! 😆 I mean, I wasn't yet that adjusted to the digital drawing world and was exploring more of different art styles. Woah, a lot of things can happen in a year! But I am happy that I have gone through all of this last year. I feel like I found my art style because of this. ☺️
In the before picture, I am aiming for a street concept. I remembered looking for different folds of clothing for reference. I was studying clothes. It was frustrating haha! The lips... I think I just watched a Kooleen video here and was aiming for the juicy lips 🤣 I like the choice of color though, vibrant and young.
Check out the challenge here.
Art Process
Here, I am going for a puffy orange jacket with the hands in the pocket, a yellow top, and a denim skirt. The body is somewhat leaning to her left. Since the hair is all the way to the back, I put some strands sticking out to the left. The colors are color-picked from the original art and adjusted the saturation. Same with the brown hair and blue eyes.
Shadowing and lighting make the art more 3D-ish. I used the same brush for all. I usually go for a soft brush and airbrush. For example, the shadow of the legs is a combination of soft brush and airbrush, then I used the smudge for blur. For the shine of the puffy jacket, I used a textured brush. I fixed the opacity to make the layers blended to each other.
The bricks image is from free images of Clip Studio software. There are different images for bricks but this one is the same before art. I just copied and pasted the layers from my SPL art Iza the Fanged. I airbrushed a shade of darker brown on the lower part to look like a gradient. I added some graffiti and pictures of the bricks including my NFT Grumpea. I like the smiley face and skull. 😍 The tattoos are added character to the character, hahah, you get it? I feel like the original art needs it. On the upper body, I chose birds flying, and on the leg, I chose cherry blossoms.
Final Art
I did not do anything crazy on the light part. I used yellow, red, and orange colors and set them to different layers. after that, I set them to add glow and adjusted the opacity and the saturation. I also add some shadows on the lower part. Lastly, added noise monochrome and set it to 10 percent opacity.
Finished art!! 🥰 I enjoyed doing this art.
Thanks for reading~ 💖
