Maiya Watson Character Spotlight
All the other things I have featured so far have mostly shown Wade Watson. But there are many other characters coming! Next up is his adopted sister, Maiya.
I talked about the world background last time so I'll leave most of that out and jump straight to talking about Maiya. She is an engineering genius. Her specialty is electricity. She has designed a conduit drone that allows her to fire electric blasts with a thought. She transmits this through her headset. She also has developed her babies that she calls Maidi. She pronounces it how it is spelled, Mai-Di. She has many Maidis. They also act as an electric conduit and will follow her wherever she goes. In the game all this combined means firing lots of electricity around! And given that the main enemies in the game are metal drones, her electricity tends to arc and burst the more the metal objects clump together.
Maiya's Design
I went through a lot of iterations of Maiya over the years. She has always been meant to be a cute engineer nerdy type. Here are some sketches showing how she evolved over the years.
Maiya's Future
This is the final design. I think it turned out pretty well. Neither character is really complete though. Wade still has a few evolutions to build up. And the same is true for Maiya. As can be seen in the sketches, she will have a 'vehicle' of her own which consists of a floating throne and giant mech arms. In general she has a theme where she does not need to do much herself because her creations do everything for her. Walking around she does not even need to look where she is shooting (which is beneficial because she never has to slow to run backward.) This trend continues when she gets her throne that will float her around so she does not even need to walk anymore!
Keeping this one pretty short. I may also slow down a bit on posting these types of things so I can concentrate on getting more done. This was all kind of an experiment to see if I can generate a following that is interested int he game as I build it. Which, is hard to do in general but I also feel like I started a bit too soon. It was still good to test the waters I think and I still plan to post as I make bigger progress but I really want to get to my demo milestone sooner rather than later, so will probably be focusing up a bit for the coming weeks. I may also just stop writing so much. 😅 And just post screen shots or art. I don't know yet. 🤷♂
