I know this account has been abandoned for months. Finding time to sit down and prepare myself mentally to make art has been very difficult for me when I have other things to think about..because I know I should be doing something else. But of course, I am not giving up on art despite the added responsibilities I have now. I am hoping that by doing this Inktober challenge (even though late) would push me to alot time again for art.
And this is my Inktober 2022 entry. All in one page, my friends! Lol. This idea was ispired from the Emoji to OC activity of the art group ArtPark. Saves more sketch pad pages but most of all, putting all the prompts in one page and making them connected together saved me tons of time.
The concept of this art is heaven and hell but it's fairies instead of angels. I tried my best to draw the image in my head and this is the closest my not-so-skilled hand could interpret it. I used a mechanical pencil for the sketch and technical pens (0.1 and 0.3) for inking. Funny thing is that I bought all the materials a month before October but I still ended up making it late. Finished it last November 24 and have only posted it online around a week ago on TikTok. Yup, finally gave in to TikTok. Link is at the end of this post.
So let's dissect the drawing and pinpoint the prompts.
Gargoyles scurrying out of the burning scallops and a demon bat ready to stab anyone escaping from the scallop. Then on heaven, a fairy being chased by an eagle and tripping over the root of a tree and another fairy offering a bouquet of flowers to the queen fairy.
Two armadillos looking the same. Match. Get it? Lol.
An eagle's nest, Mr. Crabby cutting the gargoyle's hand, an eagle chasing a fairy, an armadillo forgetting what was inside the scallop, a kind fairy, and an empty scallop.
Armadillos sitting and waiting for their meals.
A fowl running away, a salty armadillo who refuses to help a begging gargoyle, a gargoyle's hand scraping the soil, a fairy in ponytail, a sinner gargoyle's hand holding a crucifix (bluff), and two-headed bad dog.
A fowl committing a heist while everybody's attention is on the gargoyles, a fairy snooping down at hell while mining some boogers, a fairy (but there's four of them actually), the evil bat very tempted to devour the gargoyle at the middle, a greedy gargoyle with its hand clenching money (ego), dogs devouring a gargoyle's head (snack).
Hell on a camping setup.
A fairy looking at the commotion happening down in hell and how the fate of the poor gargoyles would end (uh-oh). And the demon bat with its gear, a sharp trident to stab any sinners who try to escape.
A fairy's version of farm. See the fruits of the trees on the left? 👁
Drawing Process
I used a Rotring Tikky 0.5 mechanical pencil for sketching and sizes 0.1 and 0.3 Sakura Pigma Micron for the inking. I was supposed to purchase a Unipin brand because that's what I've been using in the past but it was not available at the store I went to so I tried Sakura instead. For the mechanical pencil, I was eyeing for something that feels comfortable on my hand. The saleslady gave me some pencils to try and the Rotring Tikky felt the most comfortable to draw with. I don't always do traditional drawing and still prefer digital art, but having good materials for traditional art isn't bad at all if you prioritize the longevity and quality of your artworks.
I used a 0.5 inch margin to have more space to draw on. Well, adding margin isn't my original plan but i guess having a margin would make the artwork look neat.
Aahhh! Finally I was able to complete the Inktober challenge! But maybe it's considered invalid because it's late. Ha ha. Like I've mentioned, I still prefer drawing digitally because it's hand tremor friendly. My hands always feel tired doing other stuff. Maybe I'll try to do Inktober 2023 digitally.
That's all, friends! Until the next artwork!
