Information is the knowledge you have or perceive about something, and as we all know knowledge is power and to pass that knowledge some form of information is used.

Then let's speak about false information if the right information is power what does wrong information give, wrong information deceives. And in our communities around us, one way or the other false information are been passed around, and that got me thinking about how can we help halt the spread of false information?

False information or misinformation can either be physical or through the media and any other means you can get information. And most likely the cause of the spread of misinformation is when one is not an information literate basically what I mean is not being able to evaluate information or find out its authenticity. And to do that can be very difficult cause we might not know how far the information has gone before it got to us and to evaluate it might seem impossible.

So to stop the spread of misinformation what we have to do is to become information literates. Then here comes the question how can one become Information literate?

Now that you understand the pending issue, and probably you have found yourself falling victim to passing false information. How do you what to become Information literate?

I got the inspiration for this post from a discussion I had with my friend earlier this week about the pending electrical issue we had in our area. well there has been a blackout for quite a while and fuel is scarce (I don't know why) and everyone is quite frustrated.

And the painful part is that I also fell victim to passing wrong information, and the information was about the transformer which has been removed for a while and has been taken for repair and hasn't been returned yet, with a new flying around that It will be returned this week(not sure how true that was ).

So I overheard a guy saying it has been returned and I was happy cause our electricity is about to be restored and so I passed this information until later that night when I was told that it hasn't and I felt really bad 🥲🥲. Because I was so sure about the news I heard without evaluating if it was true.

Then it came to me how do I become Information literate amidst the era of an information age.

The thing is that in this age where information is key how do we pass the right one and debunk the wrong one.it isn't going to be an easy task because we got quite a lot of information spreading around.

Now I have a question for you and I will appreciate your response in the comment section.

What do you think is the best way to becoming an information literate?
What way can we get authentic information? And how can one detect fake information and help halt the spread?

Hey man! I see you are trying to write like me here. You just need to work on a few things and how to use your punctuations and sentence formation then you would be just fine. This is nice by the way.

To become literate regarding receiving and passing information. One needs to verify the source from which this information came before accepting it to be true.

Also, learning to DYOR (Do your own research) would save a lot of trouble and allow one to know when a piece of information is fake or authentic.

Thanks very much for the pointers bro ...i really appreciate...your writing are something to recon with.

Exactly true DYOR is a very good way to become a literate.
