Coffee + alcohol is generally a great combination. I do like my Coffee Martinis (which is not really a Martini) at the start of a night out. So I was pleasantly surprised that a coffee place close to campus created some new alcoholic drinks.
Moutai is the most well-known Baijiu brand in China. Generally peeps confuse baijiu with rice wine which it is not although there exist rice based baijius. Moutai is made from fermented sorghum; which is the go to for Chinese southeastern Baijiu. Baijiu is generally drunk straight using the tiny shot glass in the above image.
Flavourwise Baijiu is a bit like vodka but with a strong finish like a soy sauce wihout any salt. The base of a Coffee Martini is vodka so Baijiu would be a good match with coffee. They went for a Dirty, cold milk with an espresso poured over it, and then topped it with Baijiu. Would be interesting to drink it alongside a vodka version but I would pretty sure the Baijiu would be the winner as the base has more flavour.
Tasting Dirty-Baijiu was a cool experience ^^
