“Experience is the best teacher”. Well, that’s not entirely true, but more often than not, having experience by your side will go a long way in helping you overcome certain hurdles in life.

Living on earth can be likened to being in a school, except in this school you don’t get to graduate until death comes knocking. As long as you’re in this world, you’ll keep garnering experience whether you like it or not.
The question now is – what will you do with it? Will you make use of your past experience to improve your life or you’re going to waste one of the most useful resources at your disposal?
In this post, I’ll be exploring various ways by which we can engage the force of our garnered experiences to improve our life standards.
THE PRESENT IS AN EXAMINATION; THE PAST IS THE STUDY MATERIAL
I believe that all life does is to teach and examine us constantly by creating scenarios and instances we can learn from. These events will eventually shape what we become as a human. So, it’s safe to say that our present situation in life is as a result of the design made by our past decisions.

At the beginning of this post, I mentioned how this world could be likened to a school. Well, just like a school, there are several study materials (our past) at our disposal. And these materials will be useless unless we make use of them in our day to day activities. We will always be faced with daily examinations, and our performance will be a factor of how well we make good use of our study material. Your response to the constant questions life keeps asking will determine how successful you become.
DON’T JUST BE A SCHOOLER, BE SCHOOLED
There is a clear difference between going to school and being schooled. We all have to attend school but the latter is the end goal. Being schooled refines you and helps you in knowing how to avoid certain mistakes should they arise again. If you refuse to be schooled and proceed unabated, you’ll most likely end up failing miserably. Learn from life, let it teach you.
LEARN HOW NOT TO MAKE MISTAKES FROM YOUR PAST MISTAKES
Mistakes are a constant factor in one’s life. Every successful person has in one way or the other made mistakes at one point in their life. But while mistakes are inevitable, there can be avoided at times. One way to avoid further mistakes is by, you guessed right, learning from past mistakes. Every time you fail or make a mistake, you should sit down and try to identify how you did wrong. Refer to your past mistakes so you won’t keep being a repeater of these circumstances.
Take a pause, analyze your past. Identify what has worked for you and how it worked for you. Think of ways by which it can be applied in your current situation.
LIFE IS NEITHER STRONG NOR WEAK, IT IS WHAT YOU MAKE OF IT
During my days in high school, I was introduced to a concept called “GIGO”. GIGO is an acronym for “Garbage in, garbage out”. What this means is that whatever the system is fed with, the system churns out. You can either choose to accept whatever is thrown at you or you can take charge and reshape it by giving it everything you’ve got and making use of the knowledge you’ve garnered to help your cause.
Everything you take into your system will eventually come back to either assist or haunt you.
