Life doesn’t give you what you desire, but what you demand. Everyone wants to be rich, get better at their jobs, etc. those are desires, but are you demanding these things?
Everyone desires to be great, but not everyone is great. This is because being great requires certain practical steps that need to be taken before it can be achieved.
In this post, I’ll be listing some of the steps I believe has to be taken before greatness can be achieved.
DISRUPT THE BALANCE
Many years ago, I was taught the Le Chatelier’s principle by my chemistry teacher. Le Chatelier’s principle states that “if a stress is applied to a reaction mixture at equilibrium, the net reaction goes in the direction that relieves the stress”. What this means in simple terms is that, a system at equilibrium will always remain at equilibrium. The parameters might change, but the system will adjust so as to make sure the equilibrium is kept.
Our world is at an equilibrium, our individual lives (though you might find it strange to believe), are perfectly balanced. So, anytime anything happens to disrupt that equilibrium, that gap is quickly filled to maintain the balance.
One of the things to do in one’s quest to attain greatness is to sit down and reflect on what great people do that you’re not doing. What is a common trait you’ve noticed in great men that is absent in your own life? Do they sleep 2 hours a day? or maybe they’re all fans of The Beatles? You have to look for this trait and then implement it in your life. By doing this, you’ve disrupted the equilibrium and naturally, for balance to be maintained, life will either force you to go back to your old ways by throwing challenges your way or pave way for you to attain the result which suits your new-found character.
What this simply means is that you have to become great before greatness comes.
HAVE A CLEAR PICTURE OF WHERE YOU’RE GOING
Being great isn’t something that can be achieved out of the blue. It’s a process and certain actions must be carried out before the final result emerges. One of such processes, and perhaps the most important one, is having a clear vision of where you’re headed. You have to be able to imagine what you want clearly, because without imagination, nothing can be achieved. Close your eyes and see the possibility of your imagination coming to life. Your actions (discipline, belief, strategy) will eventually bring your imagination into existence, but you have to see it first.
GET READY FOR THE CHALLENGES YOU’RE ABOUT TO STIR UP
Life will keep coming at you. Challenges are scattered around on the path to greatness and you have to be ready for what’s to come if you’ve decided to embark on that journey. To be great is not as hard as trying to remain great because that’s when the challenges intensify. At this point, one conquered challenge only gives way for another to emerge. They can come in any form. It can be your brother, your car or maybe your character. in whatever form they come, you shouldn’t detest challenges. Yes, they’ll reduce you to rubble if you allow them, but their real job is to mold you to be able to withstand the pressure that comes with being at the top. Do not make your challenges bigger than you, because they are not. If you cannot endure the travails of the path to greatness, you have to teach yourself to be contended with mediocrity.
Be conscious. You snooze, you lose.
One other thing to do is living life consciously. Be focused on your endgame at all times and don’t let anything deter you from doing that.
Now that you’ve been equipped with these tips, I urge you to go forth into the world and conquer it. And I bid you good luck in your endeavours.
Do you feel there are other ways by which greatness can be achieved? Or you don’t agree with any of the tips listed here? Do well to let your opinions known in the comment section.
