weekdays are not free days for me to visit places so I had to visit a presidential library in the city of Abeokuta in Ogun state on a weekend.
It was fun and educating because you get to see new materials and it also expose one to rare things.
THE LIBRARY
the name of the library is "Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library" (OOPL) It is owned by an ex president of Nigeria. the idea was concieved in 1988 to immortalize him and was later brought to reality after 10 years. this started when he became the president of the federal republic of Nigeria.
the library is a resemblance of the presidential library system from the united state. the library complex comprises 32 hectares. the archive houses 15 million documents 4,000 relating to Obasanjo's 2 stints in power and also generally on contemporary Nigerian and African history. the complex houses has different parts. it has a big hall, a hotel, wildlife and different restaurants and bars.
There is also a place for relaxation on a rock where you can view parts of the city.
The library is both a historic, tourist and academic Centre. this library was built to preserve documents and other materials he used during his time as president.
since I visited on a Saturday I was not lucky to gain access into the main library but was able to tour round the compound I visited the zoo and also went for a boat cruise.
THE ZOO
Gaining entrance into a zoo will surely cost some money because funds are essential in the maintenance of the zoo, paying of salaries to the workers and also taking care of the animals. there were different animals in the zoo and off course the "king of the jungle" (LION) was present. well to an extent they had few rear animals in the zoo but some rare animals like the Elephant, Tiger, Rhinoceros and Zebra where not in the zoo.
after touring round the zoo I then proceeded to the main library.
since the library was closed on a Saturday the only fun to catch was to snap pictures in front. and then I proceeded to the water side for a boat cruise.
THE BOAT CRUISE
this is my first time entering a boat. as money is required to get into a zoo so also money is required to get on a boat. I paid for a boat and I had to ride with a friend. they had over a million catfish inside the water. we sailed round the water. it was a nice experience and I enjoyed it.
Pictures where taking for memory sake and also short videos.
I also visited the sport arena and one place I stopped by to see was the Taekwondo dojang it was great as all taekwondo athletes where wearing their dubok and also the different belt colours made it more beautiful.
to crown it all rest is very important for the body.
after the long tour it was time to relax the body with some refreshments.
the experience was a great one indeed
