#weeklyspins: Are We Live?

This post is going to be a little different from my regular #weeklyspins posts. I don't think too many people will mind because quite honestly I think there are all of about three people that actually read these posts anyway...

The fact is, I just didn't listen to too much that many of you would find interesting this week. It was mostly just some light jazz and Spanish guitar music. Pretty the same songs and playlists that I always listen to. You would think I would get sick of them eventually, but so far I haven't yet.

What I am going to talk about instead this week is Live Music. You know, those things called concerts that many of us have all but forgotten about due to the pandemic. Sure, there are little venues here and there having live music, but at least in my area we have yet to see the big concerts that we were familiar with back in the day.

My wife and I had three concerts on the docket for 2020. The Buckeye Country Music Festival in Columbus, OH got cancelled all together. Money refunded, end of story.

The Elton John show that we were supposed to see in the Spring last year got pushed until 2022 at some point. It is horrible to say, but our biggest fear about that one was whether he would be able to stay alive until 2022 to put on the show. He might be in great health, but he isn't a spring chicken and Covid at some points seemed to be pretty indiscriminate.

Then there is the mega-show. You might almost consider it a festival given the amount of talent that is in this one evening of music...

It was supposed to happen late last Summer and after they postponed it, we didn't hear anything more for quite some time.

And then one day we got the email: The Stadium Tour Rescheduled for Sat July 10, 2021. This email came at the end of June, 2020 so at that point we were pretty confident that the rescheduled date would hold.

As things progressed to the end of 2020 and into the beginning of 2021, my wife and I had some serious doubts about the likelihood of the show actually going on.

It seems at this point they are still intent with things moving forward. I don't honestly understand how they expect to fit so many people into Comerica Park during a quarantine. Michigan has been much stricter with their standards than many states. The capacity of Comerica Park is just over 41,000. That doesn't include the fact that they will probably have "floor" seats on the field. I would guess that might make another 20,000 or so people for a total of 60,000+.

Unless they had a bunch of people take the refund option, I just don't know how safe it is going to be. My wife and I are full vaccinated, so I am not too concerned about that, but this just kind of feels like a super-spreader event waiting to happen.

If you even accept that the pandemic is real. If you don't? Rock on I guess. What do you think? Do you think the event is going to happen? What is the likelihood of live events coming back this year? Do you have any that you are planning to attend? Any you are on the fence about?

We will likely go if it moves forward as planned. We are still waiting for them to pull the plug on the whole thing. Until that happens, it sounds like it is "On with the Show"!
