Finally another run...

in #hive-1768536 months ago

I just finished a 7.310km running that lasted about 0hh:41mm:25ss !

Yes, once again I ran once and stopped for several weeks... At least, after my last run back in early April, I had a somewhat valid reason: I didn't want to get injured before my hiking trip. I actually very rarely got injured because of running. With soccer, basketball, volleyball, sure, plenty of injuries. But running is fairly steady effort, and so far it didn't cause me major issues. But like everybody, I am not getting any younger, and I didn't want to risk it. But after my trip, it's been like 3 weeks, no run, and zero excuse this time... Anyways, let's try again! The weather on Saturday was pretty good, not too hot in the late afternoon, plenty of time in front of me, that was the perfect opportunity. Obviously, no target for distance, or pace, just a run...

It actually went okay. For once, I didn't start way too fast for my current form and the pace was somewhat consistent. I even slightly picked up the pace in the last mile or so. Of course, overall, it was quite slow. I may have already said that, but I never thought I would be okay with a 9+ min/mile pace so early in my life... But considering the ~25 extra pounds I am currently carrying, and the complete lack of training, I'd say it's not so bad. And I guess that leaves a lot of room for improvement.

For the route, I kept it very simple on the neighborhood streets. After about a mile, shin splints started to appear and adductors were tight, but it felt quite easy on the lungs. Maybe some residual effects of the week hiking in altitude. That's why I went further East at the beginning, so it would force me to run back obviously. And I even added a couple of small loops a few blocks from home. So like I said, not too bad, and some hope for the next runs (hopefully soon!)

A little wildlife on the way, with of course deer. One of them was less than 5 meters away when I passed by him. He just looked at me, but never moved. They've become so used to humans, they're not even scared anymore. A much less cute vision was a dead raccoon on the side of the road. Most likely hit and killed by a car, but all its guts were outside, not really sure how that happened.

Well, let's see if I can go for another run on Monday. It's a holiday here, and the weather is supposed to be much cooler and dry in the afternoon, perfect for a second run!
Keep Exhausting!
