It was 14th March that I understood how important internet is in our lives. Personally, I was so down the whole of 14th March.
It was just a normal morning until we were really hit by “the internet blackout”.
I checked my phone in the morning, replied some emails, came on hive to engage for about 5 minutes, went about my morning routine only for me to come back and nothing was loading on my phone.
At first, I thought I run out of internet data which seemed weird because I had gotten some not long ago. Just to be on a safer side, I bought data again. After waiting till eternity, I didn’t even receive the data subscription message. I just said let me change my sim card. I changed my sim card to Vodafone and bought another internet data on that sim card too. After about 30 minutes, it seemed like vodafone was even worse. I got to know that it was a national/international issue and they were working on it.
After about an hour of the internet issue, the lights went out. I’m not really afraid of heat and apart from using electricity to charge my devices, I really don’t use it for anything else. The lights were off for about 6 hours which was highly unusual so I really knew something was so wrong somewhere. According to what I heard, there were some damage done to the undersea network wires. I don’t even know how network wires are undersea, aren’t they supposed to be in the air?(I will leave that for the experts)
The weird part about the issue was some Web 2 platforms were working well so it was giving us hope that it’d be restored soon. Truly, it’s the hope that kills because I kept on moving from ecency to hive blog to peakD to see if there has been any improvement and it was still the same. Most offices that use internet to work had to close earlier than the usual time
I just agreed to let my phone be and spend my days eating and watching movies. I think I’ve eaten a lot in the past few days than I have the whole of this year.
As I’m writing this, I have no idea when the network will come back but you will definitely see this as soon as it comes.
It’s 17th March, Sunday. The internet issue is still being resolved. Almost 4 days without internet.
Thinking about all that I felt when I could not access hive, it dawned on me how much joy I get just from being here and how much impact the blockchain has on me as a person.
Looking at how stranded I have been feeling without being able to come on here, I now understand what they mean by you only value something when you don’t have it anymore. I hope it’s not weird to say I missed you all because, I actually did.
