I hope my neighbour never reads this because if she does, I doubt she'll talk to me again.
Don't get me wrong, I had a great time growing up with the kids in my neighbourhood. Since I have several brothers, the neighbourhood kids would often come over to play football in our yard. We had a small park and always had a football lying around, so we were pretty close to most of the families in the neighbourhood. We even used to exchange gifts during the holidays, so we had a special bond with them.
But there's this one neighbour, our next-door neighbour to be exact, who is quite a troublemaker, to say the least. She's the reason we built a fence around our house. When we were kids, there was no fence around our house or hers. One day, she complained that my brothers used her unripe oranges to play soccer, and my mom punished them in front of her and then we quickly built a fence.
Once, when we rented out the house after my dad got transferred, she complained about the tenants making too much noise, which turned out to be an exaggeration. Later, when our tenants left, she told us she was sad they were gone because they used to buy things from her often. It's like, seriously, what does she want us to do?
More recently, she came to tell us that a branch from our plantain tree was encroaching on her property, while her orange tree was fully in our yard and dropping oranges onto our property. When I told my mom, we just laughed about it, and she said not to mind her because she's just one of those people.
(I just wish I had a picture to show you guys how the orange and plantain situation is but unfortunately, it's late and I can't get a good shot now)
These are just a few instances of her many complaints. While dealing with people like her can be tough, especially when they're your neighbors, we've found a way to coexist with her. After all, no matter the situation, it's important to live peaceably with them and always pretend everything is fine.
