Hive Tech Conference 2.0: Empowerment Forum For the Youth

in #hive-1768749 months ago

During my time at the university, I attended several conferences, mostly on finance and entrepreneurship, which inspired me greatly. Empowered by the knowledge I gained, I started saving early, right after graduating and during my national service. The money I saved proved very helpful after my national service, as it was used as an investment. Unlike most of my colleagues who dismissed the monthly national service stipend as insignificant, I chose to save it.

They squandered everything, and some even borrowed money in advance, using their next pay as collateral. It's all about financial literacy, a skill that many people lack. Any amount can grow over time, and it's a matter of saving and seeking out good investment options. Every year in Ghana, about 600,000 plus students graduate from university, adding to the already large pool of unemployed youth.

Securing a job is challenging, as the existing opportunities mostly consist of government institutions that cannot possibly absorb such a high number of unemployed youth. Anytime I look at the soaring numbers of youth unemployment, I only see a lack of empowerment as the cause of all the menace. Schools have their part to play, as well as several other stakeholders, including the government.

While the government often receives the brunt of the blame, providing the right education about finance and business, along with the necessary information, would be the right approach. Additionally, creating an enabling environment where, after receiving their education, individuals can be supported in building their own ventures is crucial.

Having been in our school system and understanding the crucial role of empowerment in education, I was genuinely pleased when our efforts led us to introduce the Hive blockchain to students. Last year, we held our first conference , which @mcsamm and I funded ourselves using our earnings from Hive. We were deeply inspired by the journey we began on the blockchain in 2017, which opened doors to numerous opportunities.

Today, many young people lack the knowledge needed to navigate the digital economy, hindering them from accessing numerous opportunities. I've come across individuals who have already started online businesses even without initial capital. Engaging in entrepreneurial ventures within the tech space is no longer uncommon, and the Hive platform serves as a prime example.

It showcases how individuals can leverage blockchain technology for various activities, including app development, gaming, business promotion, project building, content creation for monetization, and more.
These are all opportunities that the Hive blockchain has presented, yet not many people have discovered them yet. Our endeavors of reaching out to university students are about empowerment, seeking to give them the exposure needed to discover opportunities and leverage them to their advantage.

I don't see why a student of computer science should be at home after school when there are countless technological opportunities online they could explore. We believe that through proper engagement, we can lead many to discover what they have been missing out on online. This is why the tech conference has become an advantageous forum for participating students. We are hosting the second edition, financed by @valueplan, on the 9th of March at KNUST in Kumasi, Ghana.

With the expertise of various speakers on subjects including Web3 and blockchain, tech entrepreneurship, and the Hive blockchain ecosystem, we believe it will be a great forum for knowledge sharing, collaboration, and networking that leads to the discovery of more opportunities. Hive will empower many lives, and this event will be one of many contributing to that.

I wish I was part of that conference.
I've been inspired a lot from what you've said, how much more if I was to be there

I have not attended any conference concerning finance, but I am trying all I can to build and grow financially. I wish I could be part of this conference, it's definitely going to be a blast 🔥.

We are trying to see how we could stream live but whatever the case might be, we will share updates here with everyone before and after the conference.

what we are lacking most in Africa is financial education. Apart from the government not playing their part, schools need to situp. Thanks for what you are gradually doing, keep it up.

Our curriculum needs revision to integrate practical learning and not the traditional abstract way of teaching. This will allow us to experience the reality of what we learn. Additionally, financial literacy is a must for everyone.

Seems that conference you attended about finance is for all of us because you just inspired me to take my savings life seriously, avoiding unnecessary spendings.

The rate of unemployment in the world today is too much. I don't want to say the government has failed us but that's it. Imagine 600,000 students graduating every year, how would the government provides jobs for all of them? Anyone putting his/her hope in the government currently is obviously wasting time.

There are so many opportunities flying online, unfortunately many people are not aware of them, graduates and none graduates. Imagine platforms like hive has been existing for about 8 years and some of us just discovered it a few years back.

I must confess, you are doing a very great job by taking this opportunity to the door step of people in Ghana, this will go a long way to alleviate poverty and empower people to thrive on their own

I'm glad to hear I have inspired you. The large number of graduates is quite high every year, and I believe recent statistics will suggest this number may have increased due to the growing number of people now attending school as a result of the free SHS in Ghana. It's as if the focus is on growing the human resource without a plan for absorbing them into the job market once they complete school or even empowering them to improve their lives. We are only doing our best to show people, especially students, how they can take advantage of technological opportunities, which we hope to achieve through the Hive conference. Let's see how it goes. I believe the best form of empowerment we can give anyone is the provision of knowledge that enables them to understand that they are not limited.

Thank you sir @collinz 🥰🙏

It's so pathetic, but we have to survive. You are very right sir, providing one with the knowledge is like giving them a tool to make their ridges and seeds to sow on the ridges. God see you through on this project

This is so inspiring and interesting. More people need to know about personal savings. Working towards better future is not so easy. Thanks for all you are doing for hive and us ❤️

During national service many young stars use the opportunity to explore the world around with the allowance they are paid. Good for took a good decision to do some good savings.

It is important for the younger generation to get good knowledge of what the internet holds beyond the regular social media. From all you said, the conference was really impactful.

How I wish I could be part of something like this, I have never attended any conference based on finances, I wish it could be something that we can join through Google Meet.

Awesome program
Was very insightful 💙
