Life, Choices, and Change

in #hive-17687410 months ago

The unfortunate thing I've seen in life is the lack of control over where we are born. None of us had the privilege to choose our place of birth. Just imagine if we had the awareness at the time of conception to choose our birthplace; I'm sure that certain locations around the world where people face so much hardship would be devoid of inhabitants.

No one would willingly choose to be born into difficult circumstances. Wouldn't it be great to be born in Buckingham Palace or into the home of the world's richest or most influential person? I suppose that would have been the dream for many of us.

But let's ponder over this: does the place of your birth truly matter? Does geographical location play a pivotal role in shaping your destiny? Can your birthplace wield such a profound influence on your life? While I acknowledge that where you are born can significantly impact your life, it not always be the determining factor of your future.

We've all heard stories of individuals who born into impoverished families, struggling nations or unfortunate circumstances but were able to make a meaningful difference. Names like Wangari Maathai (Kenya), Kofi Annan (Ghana), and Nelson Mandela (South Africa) are among those I believe can provide inspiration. Their stories tell us that that any circumstances don't dictate what you can achieve in life.

Well, while I truly think that where you are or the circumstances you face don't always dictate your future. I also believe that your environment does matter. It's crucial to ensure you find yourself in a good place in life. Finding yourself in a good place isn't just about your physical location; it's about putting in the effort and exploring different paths that can bring about positive change.

It can be easier for most people to blame their parents, others, or even governments for their challenges or where they haven't reached in life. However, it's essential to realize that anyone can be a catalyst for change in what they perceive as wrong. Change only occurs when we begin to explore different ways to resolve unwanted situations.

It doesn't happen while we sit, talk about the situation, complain, and apportion blame. Many individuals we read about who successfully changed their situations for the better started by not accepting an unwanted situation as something they were destined for. Instead, they understood that situations can change if they set their minds and themselves up for a change.

Life places each of us where it wants; whatever or whenever you find yourself now, irrespective of the situation, means you are just the right person with the potential capacity to make a difference. It's easier to say life is unfair, and we all know it's true, but we never get anything just as we wish for them, only as we work for them, and it is a true reality in life.

Someone like myself I use to cry when I was a little girl simply because I don't love the place where I find myself. But when I grew up I decided to change things around me instead of blaming my parents or the government.
Thanks for sharing

@collinz thanks for bringing this to light, I love the flow and the way you composed your posts. It is an interesting topic, but what interested me the most was how simple and understandable the write up was.

It is true that the situation surrounding one's birth impacts a lot on individuals, but it can only impact but can not determine. The same way we have people who are born into gross poverty and unhealthy environments for their mental, financial and social growth but who rose from grass to grace is the same way we have people who were born in the most admirable homes, environment, and positions but who fell from grace to grass regardless of the advantages surrounding their birth.

what differentiate this set of people is their mindset and the choices they made over time, your choice is more important than the situation you find yourself because it is your choices over time that will determine if one will stay at the status where he was born till he dies or switch status whether positively or negatively

This is very insightful, thanks for the wonderful addition.

I remember someone saying in his next life he wants to be a tree in a rich country than a human in a poor country.

And I grew up to understand that the only person you can blame for where you are at a certain point in life is yourself(not your parents or anybody). There are so many ways to get to your destination ,you just need to strategize, work hard and smart, and pray for Grace.

It's interesting to hear what someone prefers to be in the next life, a tree in a rich man's country, 😃; it should tell you poverty ain't a good thing. Just like you rightly said, we can't blame others because we also have the power to make a change. Thank you @abenad
