This past week has really been a busy one for me, with work and all, I couldn't really make any post, but as soon as I saw this prompt, I knew I couldn’t let it just pass, as a foodie that I am.
I have many foods I like, mostly as long as the food is tasty, I’m in, but for the purpose of this prompt, I’ll narrow it down to just one.
I have a sweet tooth, so my all-time favorite meal is Ripe Plantains. These are so delicious, more like the feeling they give one is out of this world, I would want to compare it to an orgasm, but let me not go there.
In Nigeria, plantains are one of the most common food items. Although they can be expensive sometimes, but it doesn’t stop most people from going for it.
Plantains can be eaten alone with some sauces, or paired with some other foods. For instance, you can add ‘ripe plantain’ to bean porridge, this is what makes it very sweet compared to ordinary bean porridge. Emphasis on the ripe because if you go adding the unripe, I won’t be held accountable for whatever the outcome maybe.
Plantain can be eaten with egg sauce, which is my all-time favorite, or with palm oil, or stew, this just has to do with your preference. But trust me, you won't regret having a taste of any as they all taste so good and delicious.
Again, it can be combined with yam and mashed, and mixed with palm oil. This is peculiar to my region; it is usually called ‘Onunu’. This delicacy is known to be very satisfying; it is usually eaten alongside fresh fish pepper soup. Trust me, when you finish eating this, you will sleep well. I remember one time when we went to the village for the Christmas holidays, we went to see our grandma, and she was always making this food for us. Whenever we finished eating, we always showered her with praises as we couldn’t get enough of the meal. We were always grateful to her as we didn’t get to eat it so much at home.
It can also be paired with cassava and palm oil, this combination in my community is called ‘Apalapa’, very tasty. You just have to boil the cassava and the plantain and mix them with palm oil.
Another of my favorite delicacy of plantain is roasted plantain, popularly known as ‘Bole’. It is usually eaten with spiced roasted fish and palm oil sauce, which is usually very spicy. This particular delicacy is very tasty, when you have a taste of it you will understand what I mean, that I am not making up any of this. It's actually a delight to try these meals.
I could eat this all day and every day a week if allowed to, but that would spoil the fun of it, all I’m trying to say is that I’m an ardent lover of this meal.
Lastly, plantains could be made as snacks, often called plantain chips, which can be eaten on the go as any other snack. There are variants of the snacks, some just use the unripe plantain to make the chips, while some use the ripe plantain, which is often tastier than the unripe ones. Some go as far as adding some spices to make it a bit spicy when eating it, this is by all means my most preferred variant as I usually like my food spicy.
Plantain could also just be fried and eaten with stew, or with custard, this is also one of the ways I love to eat my plantain.
I hope I didn’t bore you, as I said at the beginning of this post, I’m a lover of plantain, and these are some of the ways I love to eat my plantain.
I hope you can try some of these meals, and come back to give me your feedback.
Thank you for stopping by 💕💕💕
