In this world where there is a serious breach in people's privacy all in the name of an advancement in technology, it has put a dent on the lives of people who do not want to be the center of attraction on social media and the world at large. Most times what we see on social media is a proven fact that people are ignorance to the fact that not everyone wants to have their faces recorded because people's belief, values, tradition, norms and disciplines are different and they have to be respected no matter what. 30% of what we see on social media are videos of people who were recorded without their intentions some even got to realize that they have videos trending without them knowing about it. while some others have been made to suffer on a low the consequences of the ignorance of others.

I am more of a private person than a public type of person not that I am allergic to being recorded on camera but for the sake of sanity and less mental stress I believe I should be aware before such occurrences happen. If I happen to see myself on social media trending for something I did not intentionally approve it will be so embarrassing to me and to people around me. For instance, recently there was a video about a young man and a lady who were discussing in front of an uncompleted building and we are about to carry out an act inside the building but were being careful about it but somehow, someone far away was using a Samsung phone that can zoom in a long distance, recorded it and put it on social media. This singular act is a clear violation of those people's privacy at that moment and putting it on social media for the whole world to see is the height of it. They were unbiased opinions from people who do not even matter or even know what this people's intentions but were giving comments based on their mentality which was so unnecessary.

It's so disheartening the way people pay less attention or regard other people's privacy, when you tell people you are a private person they tend to see you as boring and unsocial like their opinion counts. The only time I believe that privacy can be breached is when there is a serious matter on the ground that needs proven evidence by recording a video, the thing is that this form of recording has proven useful over time and has helped people get justice for what they deserve. Take for instance, a woman who wanted to get justice for herself because of the domestic violence melted on her by her husband was able to use her mobile phone to record the moment of the battering. She captured the way the man batters and punches her, and although she has never posted on social media before but she had to explore this medium to make people believe her.

So in this digital age, breaching of privacy is so rampant that a common man might just see himself on social media which can have a positive impact or a negative impact depending on who the kind of person is. Hopefully this does not happen with me especially in a negative way because it would affect me mentally and psychologically.

This is a reaction to the hive Ghana community weekly engagement context and gladly it is related as it has to do with our day-to-day experiences and encounter in our community and the world at large.

In a world where information is constantly collected and shared, what does privacy truly mean? Has a privacy breach ever impacted you? Do you think people pay less attention to privacy in today’s world?

Nowadays, privacy has been abused. No one cares to ask for your permission before posting a photo or video of you on the internet. In the world where content creators are in search of content, one has to be careful else you'll be the next trend.
